Your mission is to save the world, but first, you need to choose a starting class in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. Each class has its own traits that enhance your initial skills, making you more effective in different aspects as you navigate your adventures through Avalon.
The class you choose should align with your preferred playstyle and your experience with role-playing games. We’re here to guide you in selecting the right class and subclass to help forge your own destiny in Avalon and Kamelot.
How to Choose Your Class
As you begin in the Island Asylum, you will be awakened by a Red Priest guard who will interrogate you. Approach him at the gate to start a conversation; he will inquire about what you were doing before you were caught by the Red Shields.
Your responses may seem trivial at first, but they will determine which skills will be enhanced. This also provides an immersive roleplay experience, making it worth it to answer based on your favored play style.
When starting a new game, make sure to begin with the Prologue or you might miss out on key choices.
How to Build a Fighter
When the guard asks what you were up to, say that you were heading to enlist in the army. This is a solid choice for newcomers looking to dive in.
After telling the guard about your enlistment, he will ask which branch of the army you intended to join, giving you an additional boost to your skills. Below are your options:
Infantry Subclass
This is your standard fighter class, focusing on swords, shields, and heavy armor. With this beginner-friendly option, you can essentially build a knight, making it a classic choice in fantasy settings.
Archer Subclass
If you prefer to stay at a distance from combat, the archer may suit you best. Light armor is scarce, while medium armor strikes a good balance, allowing you to combine different armor types for defense. However, acquiring arrows and attacking early on might prove challenging.
Battlemage Subclass
If you want to cast spells while being armored, the Battlemage is ideal. You’ll also receive a spell to kick off your journey, making this a great choice for character customization.
Healer Subclass
This option is perfect for those keen on experimenting with potions, poisons, and blood magic. The Transfusion spell allows you to drain enemy health and restore yours, which can be incredibly handy in the early stages of the game.
How to Build a Ranger
Rangers are more than just archers, even though that is their main focus. As a ranger, you can choose a subclass that showcases your strengths.
This roleplay question allows you to gain a significant skill boost in one of several crafting disciplines, making this class better suited for experienced players who value self-sufficiency.
Handcrafting Subclass
If crafting your own items is important, this subclass is for you. The materials you gather from hunting will be beneficial, making it a great option for those looking to create the ultimate weapon.

Cooking +9
Cooking is a fantastic way to restore your health and assist others. Choosing this class means you can make mouthwatering meals from the meat you gather on your hunts.
Alchemist Subclass

Alchemy +9
Mages and anyone interested in brewing potions and poisons will appreciate the extra boost to alchemy. A ranger is just an archer without a collection of potent brews by their side.
How to Build a Thief
The rogue is a classic archetype known for hiding in shadows and delivering sneak attacks. This class can be thrilling for both new and seasoned players, although it does make close combat tougher.
However, you can ease this challenge with potions, spells, and appropriate gear. If avoiding direct combat is your style, this is likely the class for you. As you allocate your skill points in areas like archery, you’ll become a formidable opponent.
Assassin Subclass
-
Skill Bonus
-
Archery +6
Evasion +6
This subclass focuses on speed and precision with a bow, making it an excellent choice for experienced players who prefer to dispatch enemies swiftly and discreetly.
Thief Subclass
Equipped with a lockpick, you’re ready to explore the Island Asylum and unlock virtually anything as long as you take care not to break the pick. Those familiar with rogue gameplay will find this subclass particularly rewarding.
How to Build a Mage
Lastly, you can tell the guard that you were on a pilgrimage to an ancient site, leading him to think you’re a Druid. With druids nearly extinct, this option gives you a substantial role-playing opportunity.
Your subclass will determine whether you’re one of the surviving druids or just a magic user. In either case, you’ll receive a bonus starting spell!
Druid Subclass
If you wish to embody a Druid, tell the guard you specialized in healing magic. You’ll gain the Blood Transfusion spell, which counts as a healing ability.
Caster Subclass
If you prefer a more aggressive approach, let the guard know you’d rather set a tree ablaze. You’ll receive the Burning Ember spell along with enhancements to light armor and athletics.
