Driving in Mario Kart World is a blend of flashy stunts, smart tactics, and a sprinkle of luck. With the new feature of wall-riding, you’ll find yourself constantly honing all three aspects, especially the flashy tricks.
However, not everyone is a natural when it comes to wall-riding. Even if you grasp the basic mechanics, there are some lesser-known techniques to keep in mind. Make sure to pick out the best rail-riding tracks from the selection to get plenty of practice. After all, the more you practice, the better your rewards will be.
How to Ride Walls
Before hitting any walls, it’s crucial to understand what qualifies as a wall.
Walls can be any surface that you can ride on besides the road. This includes:
- Side rails (on the road and ramps; not guardrails)
- Train tracks
- Walls marked by flashing arrows
- Large vehicles (like buses)
- Telephone wires
To jump onto a wall, you can:
- Approach the target gradually where a rail or wall connects with the course.
- Press the jump button (your dodge button, R) next to the wall to flip onto it.
If the walls are particularly high, you might need to execute a Charge Jump. To do this, hold down A and R simultaneously. Watch for sparks under your wheels; as they grow larger and change colors, you can jump higher to reach elevated surfaces.
When on a wall, you can jump off anytime using the same flip method you used to get on. As you flip off a wall, if your distance is sufficient, you can perform a stunt for a small speed boost—a handy bonus in tight situations.
You can also execute multiple aerial tricks. These combos can significantly benefit your race since performing more tricks results in larger speed boosts. However, failing to finish your tricks before landing will forfeit your speed boost. To avoid this, press the R button mid-air instead of shaking the controller.
