“We have the utmost respect for anyone who makes games”
On the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater subreddit, a user named will-powers pointed out an easter egg in the new Waterpark level. Near the water slide next to a pirate ship, there’s a trash can with a game box that clearly refers to Activision’s Guitar Hero series, complete with Neversoft’s logo on it.
The Banjo Champion box inside the trash can features a shadowy figure reminiscent of Guitar Hero ads playing a banjo. Although Banjo Champion is a lighthearted jab at Guitar Hero that appeared in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 as well, placing it in a trash can has led some fans to view it as an insult toward the game and its developers.
What seems to be the official Iron Galaxy Reddit account responded to the conversation, stating that they’re looking into how it ended up in the game. They confirmed it will be removed in the next update.
This implies that Iron Galaxy did not intentionally include the easter egg, and it may have been added as a joke by a developer. It’s unclear if the easter egg would have been taken out if fans hadn’t perceived it as offensive, but it seems that Banjo Champion’s time in the trash is coming to an end.
