The Purgator 1 is a weapon that defies easy classification. Although it’s designed as a semi-automatic shotgun shooting slugs, it possesses a few unique characteristics:
- It’s categorized as a rifle, not as a shotgun.
- This weapon has a limited ammo capacity, similar to many explosive weapon types.
- It has no damage drop-off, making it effective at various ranges.
In practice, the Purgator 1 operates as a semi-automatic designated marksman rifle (DMR) with very limited ammunition. This is likely due to its special ability: kills made with the Purgator 1 create Gas clouds at the deceased target’s location. This allows it to function as a quasi-area-of-effect weapon if you can secure kills, although the damage dealt by these clouds is minimal and doesn’t scale well.
Purgator 1 Builds
In this guide, we’ll discuss an endgame build focused on enhancing the critical stats of the Purgator 1, making its Gas clouds easier to trigger. Please note that we are employing the Rifle Cannonade mod for this build, which significantly reduces your fire rate. If you prefer a quicker shooting experience, consider replacing it with Serration, Galvanized Aptitude, or another preferred fire rate mod.

Maximizing raw damage is essential with this build. Start with Primary Merciless to increase your damage and reload speed. To further amplify the base damage, go for Semi-Rifle Cannonade. While this choice limits the fire rate, the increased base damage and punch-through ability make it worthwhile.
To enhance the multishot aspect, include Galvanized Diffusion. For critical stats, use Galvanized Scope and Critical Delay to significantly raise the critical chance, ensuring that headshots are easy to achieve given the slug nature of the shots. Lastly, incorporate Vital Sense to improve critical damage.
Your final three mods should focus on elemental damage tailored to the enemy factions you’ll face. For a more balanced approach, use Primed Cryo Rounds and Malignant Force together to generate Viral damage. This setup performs efficiently against most enemies and boosts your damage output whenever a Viral status is triggered. Radiated Reload adds a nice touch, providing extra reload speed and relevant Radiation damage against specific factions.
