College football games have always presented a unique set of challenges, and College Football 26 is no exception. The nature of college football means that the playing field isn’t always level, which is part of what makes it so appealing.

As you dive into CFB 26, selecting the right difficulty setting can be a bit tricky. You probably don’t want to dominate top teams with a lesser-ranked school, but you also don’t want to get steamrolled every game.

Difficulty Settings Overview

In CFB 26, there are four difficulty levels to choose from:

  • Freshman
  • Varsity
  • All-American
  • Heisman

Freshman is the easiest option, while Heisman is the toughest. Most players will likely find their sweet spot somewhere in the middle.

Freshman

Freshman difficulty offers minimal challenges for those who already understand the controls and have some basic knowledge of football. Defenders tend to leave wide gaps in both the passing and rushing game, and the opposing team won’t be very skillful with the ball.

This level is perfect for players new to football video games or those who prefer a less competitive experience.

Varsity

Varsity is just a slight upgrade from Freshman. As you move up a level, the passing windows and running lanes become a bit tighter. You’ll need to be more precise with your passes and make thoughtful choices when choosing running paths.

Overall, this mode doesn’t pose much more of a challenge than Freshman, and many players familiar with football games will likely skip it for the next level.

All-American

All-American is the difficulty level where most players will feel comfortable. The challenges are noticeable, but you won’t have to be perfect to succeed. You’ll need to be strategic with your play-calling but can still rely on a variety of plays without maxing out your best options.

For players who are really familiar with football games, this setting may still feel a bit easy, especially if you rely heavily on your most effective plays. But for most gamers, it’s a great level to polish your skills and deepen your understanding of the game.

Heisman

Heisman difficulty avoids some of the usual frustrations found in the hardest settings of other football games, such as opponents making miraculous plays all the time. While it may happen occasionally, it won’t be a constant issue.

This setting will require you to stay focused on every single down. You can’t afford to take plays off, as any mistake may lead to a significant setback.

This is by far the most intense difficulty. Opponents will aggressively seize opportunities on defense, running lanes will often disappear, and there will be times when the other team seems unbeatable. You’ll need to rely heavily on your standout players to prevail against equally skilled opponents.
