Without any promotional efforts, the remastered version of *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion* has emerged as one of the standout successes in gaming for 2025. This beloved title has been revitalized through the remarkable *Oblivion Remastered*.

While you’ll likely spend most of your time engaging with the main storyline, there are potentially hundreds of hours available to explore Cyrodiil and its numerous side quests. One particularly intriguing side quest is called “Origin of the Gray Prince.” Here’s a guide on how to begin and complete it.

How to Begin the Origin of the Gray Prince

The “Origin of the Gray Prince” quest can be initiated anytime after you finish the tutorial by traveling to the Imperial City’s Arena and speaking with Agronak gro-Malog, also known as “The Gray Prince.” You’ll find him training in the Bloodworks; he’s the current champion representing The Yellow Team.

This side quest can be missed, as you might engage Agronak in a match before you start the quest. Make sure to talk to him first.

Upon speaking with Agronak, he will share the story behind his title and reveal that he lacks proof of his noble heritage, although he knows he is half Orc. He wants to uncover the identity of his other parent, whom he believes is a Lord. If you agree to assist him, he will give you a key to a room in Crowhaven that supposedly holds the proof he seeks.

Crowhaven Fort is located to the north of Anvil, so fast travel is recommended if you haven’t been there before. Follow the main road north from Anvil, then head west across the fields when the road turns east. Expect to encounter Skeletons when you arrive at the Fort; defeat them before entering the catacombs.

Exploring the Catacombs

Upon entering the catacombs, you’ll face more Skeletons as well as Rats and Wolves. Once they’re taken care of, you can move deeper into the maze. Note that the quest marker on your compass might be misleading; it’s not a straightforward path to your objective. You’ll need to navigate through a series of twists and turns.

It’s easy to get lost, so generally, you’ll want to move forward and then to the left, creating a large loop back towards your starting point in the maze.

Don’t forget to check the coffins as you explore the catacombs—they may contain valuable loot.

Eventually, you will encounter Lord Lovidicus, who is revealed to be the Gray Prince’s father and a Vampire. He will attack you immediately. You can choose to sneak past him or engage him in combat. Continue through the maze until you find the living quarters, where there’s the Vampire’s Diary on a desk. This serves as the proof needed to return to the Gray Prince, although it may not be the revelation he wishes to hear.

Afterward, fast travel back to the Imperial City Arena and go down to the Bloodworks. Speak with Agronak gro-Malog, who will gratefully thank you for retrieving proof of his lineage. He’ll offer to train with you, providing a permanent bonus of +3 to Blade, Block, and Athletics. Unfortunately, Agronak soon learns from the diary that he is half vampire, which casts a shadow over his earlier happiness.

This new realization changes your interactions with him. When you eventually face him to become the Grand Champion of the Arena, instead of fiercely battling against you, Agronak will allow you to defeat him, even encouraging you to do so.
