Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition offers a wide array of missions that grow increasingly diverse as you progress through the game. Even during the initial chapters, you’ll encounter numerous tasks that introduce you to the game’s mechanics and the challenges it presents.
One of the first quests available to you is the Repair Job. Depending on the choices you make throughout this mission, it can become more challenging than expected, but the rewards will also be enhanced. Here’s a comprehensive guide on the Repair Job and where to find some of the harder-to-locate materials.
How to Start the Repair Job Mission
The Repair Job is an early quest with minimal requirements. Since it primarily revolves around Lin, you need to have at least 1-star affinity with her, which should be achievable at this point in the game. Additionally, you must have completed Chapter Three, titled Builders of a Legacy, to ensure Tatsu is present. Lastly, be sure your character is at least level 13.
Once you satisfy these requirements, head to the Blade Barracks to accept the mission. Remember, this is an Affinity Mission, meaning that you must complete it after accepting it. Speak to Lin, and she will express her concerns about a technical issue in the New Los Angeles structure that could pose a threat to the city.
Repairing the Fault
Lin first instructs you to speak with Bart at the NLA’s West Gate to obtain energy readings. You soon discover a significant energy leak. Determined to resolve this issue, Lin enlists your help to find three L-002 Power Cables, which can be located within the Starfall Basin area in Primordia, where your journey begins. Each cable is hidden inside a piece of White Whale debris.
After collecting the cables, return to Lin so she can execute the repairs. However, after fixing the system, Lin expresses her concern that the solution might only be temporary and likely to break down again. At this point, you’ll have two options that may not be immediately apparent as choices: support Lin in finding a more permanent fix, or agree with Tatsu that Lin’s work is sufficient, and perfection isn’t necessary.
Agree with Tatsu
If you choose to side with Tatsu, the quest concludes here. Lin realizes that while perfection is ideal, it’s not always required, and it can be addressed in the future. You will receive 9,000 credits and 160 EXP as a reward.
Agree with Lin
The game often highlights the nearest available locations for these items, which can occasionally lead you into areas that are more challenging than necessary.
Here’s where to find each of these items:
- Cruise Deflector AiRs: These are the simplest to obtain. They are standard blue collectibles, marked on your map, and you can use the Follow Ball to guide you.
- Energy Tubes: These can be dropped by Pawn Puges located in the Seaswept Base, where you encountered Tatsu in Chapter Three. The drop rate is low, but you can also purchase them from the Material Market for 15 Reward Tickets each.
- White Cometites: You can collect these from Data Probes, providing revenue and Miranium income. Look for them at FN Site 115 near Northpointe Cove and FN Site 118 by North Janpath Plain.
Once you’ve set up the Data Probe to generate White Cometites, remember that you can’t just wait. The timer only counts down when you’re actively engaged in activities, so keep moving if you want to progress in the mission.
After gathering all the required items, return to Bart and let Lin complete the repairs. For your efforts, you will receive 10,000 credits and 170 EXP. While it’s not a huge reward, Lin will appreciate your extra effort.
You will also unlock the Gatling Gun Art, Fire Carnival for your character, regardless of which choice you made.
