As you journey through Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, you’ll find that the primary gameplay involves visiting villages, exploring their surroundings, and completing quests. While exploring, you may stumble upon side quests that offer great rewards.
One such side quest is "Roll, Roll, Roll Your Onigiri," which you will first encounter in Summer Village. To complete this quest, you’ll need to locate six Onigiri spots scattered throughout the world and place the appropriate item in each one.
Summer Village Onigiri Spot and Solution
The first Onigiri hole is located in the Summer Village, where you will activate this quest. To get to this spot, continue through the village’s storyline until you’re directed to the outskirts to search for a specific sword. As you explore the outskirts, you’ll pass through Precipice Beach and the Materials Storage area.
From there, head east, and soon you’ll come across a teleport statue near a campfire. As you approach, you’ll hear the Onigiri song, which marks the spot on your map. Unlock the statue and continue upward; this will automatically trigger the quest and reveal the Onigiri spot.
You’ll meet an NPC who tells you that the hole wants you to roll Onigiri into it. If you haven’t consumed your food, you probably have some regular Onigiri in your inventory. These items are obtained early in the game, just as you’re about to explore the Spring Village outskirts. Simply drop an Onigiri into the hole to satisfy the singers and continue the quest.
After this episode, five more Onigiri spots will appear around the world, each requiring a specific type of Onigiri based on the demands of the singers.
Spring Village Onigiri Spot and Solution
Once you’ve unlocked the quest in Summer Village, you can travel to Spring Village to find the second Onigiri hole. Teleport to the Guardian’s Grove statue and take the upward path on the left. The Onigiri icon will appear on your map at this location.
The second spot requests Grilled Miso Onigiri, which is easy to make after obtaining the recipe. To get this recipe, you need to reach the hidden island in the southern part of the Summer Village outskirts. Teleport to the statue next to Waterfront Walkway and head straight down the beach to reach this island.
To access the Frog Statue for the recipe, you’ll first need to unlock the Sacred Parasol, as it’s situated at a higher elevation.
After acquiring the Grilled Miso Onigiri recipe, combine a normal Onigiri with Miso to cook it. A great way to ensure a steady supply of Miso is to build something that provides it daily.
Autumn Village Onigiri Spot and Solution
Although you can tackle these spots in any order, the Autumn Village one is technically the third. This Onigiri hole can be found in the outskirts of Autumn Village, but getting there will take some time if you stick to the main story. First, you’ll need to navigate the Mechanical Maze and finish some dialogue before your marker updates to the northwestern edge of the Autumn Region.
As you approach, you’ll cross a bridge just above the teleport statue east of Pampas Plains. Continue north after crossing the bridge, and you’ll hear the Onigiri song coming from behind a cliff. Be prepared for combat, as the area is packed with enemies.
This Onigiri spot asks for a grilled fish variety: Salmon Onigiri. The recipe will take some time to unlock, as you’ll need to proceed with the Winter Village story until you reach White Wolf Mountain. In this area, look for a secluded building in white on the northern edge of the map.
Use your Sacred Parasol to access this building and interact with the Frog Statue inside to acquire the recipe. To prepare Salmon Onigiri, you’ll also need the Grilled Salmon recipe, which can be found at another Frog Statue near a pool to the north of Winter Village outskirts.
Winter Village Onigiri Spot and Solution
The Winter Region is the last area where you’ll find an Onigiri hole. This spot is located on the northern side of the Winter Village outskirts near a pool with a rock and campfire to its left. You can reach this pool by continuing the main story.
This spot requires a deep-fried shrimp Onigiri. The recipes you’ll need are Tempura Onigiri and Shrimp Tempura. Here’s how to obtain both:
- Shrimp Tempura: Found in the Summer Region, on the eastern side after crossing the Hanging Bridge. Go south after crossing the bridge and you’ll find a Frog Statue holding the recipe.
- Tempura Onigiri: Located at White Wolf Mountain. You’ll need to progress in the story for this as well. Interact with the large Frog Statue in this area to find the recipe.
Once you’ve got both recipes, you can combine Onigiri and Shrimp Tempura at any cooking station. Don’t forget, you’ll need to fish for shrimp to have the necessary ingredients.
Dawnbreak Island Onigiri Spot and Solution
After completing the quests in all four main regions, the barrier to the Skies of Azuma will lift, allowing access to Dawnbreak Island. This Onigiri spot is near the teleport statue on the island and requires Bonito Flake Onigiri.
You might already have the recipe if you’ve interacted with the Frog Statue near the teleport statue in the Vast Plateau area of the Spring Region. You’ll need Preserved Bonito and Soy Sauce, which can be obtained as you explore various locations in the game.
Heavenly Realm Onigiri Spot and Solution
The last Onigiri hole is in the Heavenly Realm, which you’ll automatically reach as you progress through the story. To get here, cross a gap in the platforms and reach the other end of the second platform using the Sacred Staff.
To the north of the second platform is a hidden path to the right. Follow this path to a secluded island housing the Onigiri spot. You’ll need to make the Greatest Grilled Onigiri, which isn’t available through a Frog Statue. Instead, you must cook it using a unique recipe.
Before attempting to cook, make sure you’ve reached bond level six with Matsuri, the Summer Village god. Once you can cook together, go to Iroha and access the cooking menu. Look for Grilled Onigiri and select the "Cook Together" option when making it to obtain the Greatest Grilled Onigiri for the final spot.
Roll, Roll, Roll Your Onigiri Rewards
Submitting the correct Onigiri at any of the six spots will spawn a small and a large chest for you to choose from. Although the rewards don’t vary much, both chests provide the same recipes, plus an additional item that differs between your selections.
Here’s a list of recipes you can earn from each location:
Village | Rewards |
---|---|
Summer Village | Butter Roll |
Spring Village | Salted Stuffed Mochi, Pumpkin Pie |
Autumn Village | Cookie, Sweet Potato of the Ages |
Winter Village | Hamburg Sandwich, Grilled Corn |
Dawnbreak Island | Cheesecake, Chocolate Cookie, Pumpkin Flan |
Heavenly Realm | Matcha Flan |
Additionally, completing the last spot grants you an Onigiri Replica to place in your development area.
