Instead of having to create a character setup from the ground up, Elden Ring Nightreign offers a variety of pre-made Nightfarers for you to control. Each character comes with unique passive abilities, skills, and preferred weapons, allowing players to adopt different playstyles.
Like many RPGs and roguelikes, you won’t start with everything available. The Revenant character is locked behind a challenging boss fight with the Night Idol, which you have to tackle solo. Defeating the Night Idol is a significant challenge, but we’ve got some tips to help. First, let’s explore how to initiate the Night Idol fight.
How to Begin the Night Idol Fight
You can unlock the Night Idol fight after you purchase the Besmirched Idol from the Small Jar Bazaar in Roundtable Hold. This item becomes available once you unlock the Duchess Nightfarer. After buying the item, enter a new instance of Roundtable Hold.
Upon arrival, go to the east wing and turn left. You’ll spot a phantom gazing at one of the wall paintings. Interacting with this phantom will kick off the Night Idol fight with your chosen Nightfarer. Be prepared to handle multiple enemies simultaneously, so characters with ranged skills or high durability are recommended. Good picks include Recluse, Ironeye, Wylder, and Guardian.
How to Defeat the Night Idol
You will start at Level 6 with your Nightfarer’s initial weapon. There are no drops or runes to utilize in this battle.
You’ll find yourself just outside the Night Idol’s arena, which mirrors the Revenant’s layout. This fight includes her entire set of shadowy allies. To complete the encounter, you must defeat the Night Idol without dying. If you do fall, you’ll have to restart from the beginning. If you’re using Wylder, his cheat death ability won’t reset the fight, but you can only use it once.
Controlling the adds is crucial during the Revenant fight. You’ll face three summons:
- Helen: A fast-moving entity wielding a rapier. They have low health but deal significant damage in close range.
- Frederick: A pumpkin-headed phantom with slow but heavy-hitting attacks. Circle around them for safe opportunities.
- Sebastian: A large, stationary skeleton that acts as a turret. Use cover from nearby pillars to avoid its beam attack.
Helen is arguably the most formidable summon, as their speed complicates isolating the Revenant during close combat. Frederick’s attacks are easier to dodge, while Sebastian’s stillness allows you to evade many of its strikes as long as you stay near the arena’s pillars. Avoid fighting in open spaces.
Revenant will aggressively pursue you and attack with her claw weapon. If you can maneuver her around the adjacent pillars, you can evade most of her attacks. The summons are the primary concern, not the Revenant herself.
We found it effective to eliminate Helen first, then draw Frederick away from the Revenant, and finally attack the Revenant with the small opening created. If Frederick approaches, back off and lure them away; Sebastian shouldn’t be too problematic as long as you avoid open combat. They’re quite resilient, so if you can, don’t bother killing them.
Keep in mind that the fight concludes once the Revenant is defeated, not her minions. You should constantly apply pressure to her during the match, only dealing with her minions when absolutely necessary. Taking down Helen is advisable since she’s more aggressive, but the other two phantoms are less threatening. Remember to utilize your character’s abilities, stay near the pillars, and with some practice, you’ll emerge victorious. Defeating the Night Idol will unlock the Revenant Nightfarer.
