In addition to the main narrative of Deltarune, there are numerous secret storylines that you can explore. These can lead to extra mini-games, boss fights, and unique items for your characters. Many of these paths might go unnoticed unless you happen to discover them on your own or know where to look.
One interesting collectible is the Ice Key, which opens up an optional boss battle against the Shadow Mantle Holder. This guide will explain how to obtain the Ice Key.
How to Obtain the Ice Key
To find the Ice Key, you’ll first need to achieve S-Rank in the initial round of the TV Time game. Once you’ve accomplished that and are taken to the Green Room, you can now enter through the S-Rank door.
After entering, move to the left and talk to the NPC by a set of brown double doors. This character will inform you that more games are available, and behind those doors is the original version of the game you played with Tenna during the first round.
Inside this room, you’ll find a lot of game consoles. Head to the left to discover an abandoned console. When you interact with this console, it will turn off due to not detecting a controller.
Return to the previous room, and you’ll notice a controller on the floor. Pick this up, and the item OddController will be added to your inventory. Head back to the abandoned console and Kris will plug in the controller when prompted.
The game will boot up, with a layout similar to what you experienced earlier with Tenna and the others. However, there will be strange monsters floating around, and you’ll notice there are no Lancer, no Pippins, and no quizzes.
None of the monsters will harm you until you have your sword. So feel free to explore the map first!
When you’re set, navigate to the bottom left corner of the map to find the cave entrance Tenna mentioned as the fan mail room. Inside, you’ll find a sword. Collect it, and head back outside.
Now that you have the sword, you can fight the floating monsters. Be cautious, as they can damage you. Every monster you defeat will give your sword more experience.
Defeated monsters may drop food when defeated, which will restore some health. Just don’t take too long, as the health item will disappear.
Once your sword reaches level three, you’ll be able to cut down cacti. Head to the east side of the map where two cacti are blocking a path.
You might recall this scene from the game you played with Susie and Ralsei, when Susie wished for something to cut through the cacti. Now you have a solution!
After clearing the cacti, the path will lead you to a snowy area of the game that you’ve never seen before. Continue through these rooms, defeating any monsters you encounter until your sword level is maxed out. Once maxed, you will also have the ability to cut down palm trees.
Before you search for the ice key, utilize your new ability to expose hidden cave entrances that you might not have found otherwise. Some of these caves even contain secret messages for you!
Head back to the desert and cut down the palm trees located to the south. Eventually, you’ll spot a red chest enclosed by palm trees. Clear the palm trees surrounding the chest to access it and obtain the Ice Key.
When you approach the red chest area, the game will prevent you from leaving the screen, so ensure you’ve completed any other tasks before proceeding.
