League of Legends’ 171st champion, Yunara, was released just a few days ago. She is the first new character since Mel came out in January. Yunara is an Ionian Shrine Maiden who has been sent to the Spirit Realm to guard a powerful Darkin artifact. She attacks with the Aion Er’Na, a set of floating balls that she pushes toward her enemies to inflict damage.
This is an interesting idea for an AD Carry and could be as smooth as Lucian, who has been the most fluid auto attacker in the game for about ten years. However, Yunara’s auto-attack animation does not fully utilize her concept.
Yunara’s Auto Attack Animation Is Unpopular
Currently, Yunara’s animation makes her appear to push these balls at enemies using a burst of air. The number of balls around her does not change, remaining static even when she attacks. This has disappointed players who expected the number of balls she has to be visible around her character model.
In an ask-me-anything on Reddit, the team responsible for Yunara admitted they have received feedback about her auto attack animation and are considering making changes.
“Right now we’re tweaking the beads so that they wave a bit during the auto-attack animations to make them feel more alive and use her floating beads a bit more,” RiotPehrek mentions. “These changes are on the [Public Beta Environment] right now, and we hope to have them ready for the next patch!”
The animation updates can be seen in the video above. A wave now moves through the balls, creating the illusion that a new ball re-enters the rotation after Yunara fires one. However, this animation still does not fully showcase Yunara’s high-quality model and her concept.
It’s unusual for Riot to make changes to a champion so quickly, which shows how much negative feedback they have received regarding Yunara’s auto-attack animation since she was released on PBE.
Yunara currently has about a 44 percent win rate in Diamond+ ranked play, which is typical for a new release.
