If you’ve taken on the role of the new Druid class in The Last of the Druids update for Path of Exile 2, you’ll quickly get used to the mix of ranged elemental magic and beast-like melee attacks that define the class.
No matter which of the three subclasses you choose, there are many ways to improve your Druid builds for endgame content in PoE 2. Different animal forms lead to different Ascendancies and rely on various skills, so here’s a look at what’s ahead.
Best Bear Druid Build
The bear is usually the first animal form you’ll focus on, starting with the talisman found early in Act One, which grants access to this powerful mammal.
If you develop it properly, you’ll depend on your big smashing moves to become a tank that can withstand a lot. Your area-of-effect attacks—especially when combined with lingering effects—can greatly increase your damage.
You’ll also develop a solid fire magic arsenal, including spells like Fire Wall, Fireball, and Volcano. These deal increasing flame damage over time and are complemented by animal form spells like Maul and Fury of the Mountain, which amplify your melee abilities.
For Act Three, we recommend using these spells with specific skill gems to boost their effectiveness:
- Incinerate: Use skills like Magnified Area and Prolonged Duration.
- Fire Wall: Add Magnified Area and Considered Casting.
- Volcano: Enhance with Overabundance and Magnified Area.
- Charge Regulation: Use to boost based on your current charges, such as Power or Frenzy Charges.
Bear Form Skills:
- Maul: Your default melee attack, upgradable to deliver consistent damage. Focus on skills like Rage, Rapid Attacks, and Life Leech.
- Rampage: Charge forward and slam the ground, knocking enemies back and doing damage.
- Furious Slam: Create shockwaves with ground slams.
- Walking Calamity: Use Rage to summon meteors from the sky.
- Ferocious Roar: Warcry that grants Rage.
Gear should prioritize boosting Strength, which enhances Fury production and fire damage. Equipment that adds fire damage and flame-related stats will make your bear form excel, especially with weapons like staves that support elemental skills.
It’s beneficial to use the Fury of the King Ashbark Talisman, which boosts your damage and Strength stats, with fire-related substats for maximum effect. Consider a staff that grants Solar Orb and other significant stat boosts, helping you maximize your damage output.
Your passive skill tree should focus mainly on improving Strength, AoE damage and duration, spell magic, and health/mana management. The Shaman Ascendancy offers similar perks, but resetting your passive points later is always an option if your build needs adjustments.
Best Werewolf Build
The initial talisman you find in Act One allows access to the werewolf form, which is favored if speed and crowd control are your priorities. This form offers swift, sweeping moves, big jumps, and fierce slashes—making it ideal for aggressive players.
In Acts One and Two, you’ll develop ice magic (like Frost Bolt and Frost Bomb) suitable for your human form, along with stacking Rage-based melee skills such as Lunar Assault and Pounce for the wolf form. Both will be crucial in the later stages of PoE 2.
For the endgame, if you’re aiming for the Oracle Ascendancy, this build benefits from detailed management, especially for ice magic synergy, but the Shaman Ascendancy remains a good, simpler alternative for those preferring straightforward combat.
Important skills include:
- Herald of Ice: Explodes frozen enemies to damage others nearby. Use with Magnified Area, Prolonged Duration, and Elemental Focus gems.
- Eternal Rage: Builds Rage continuously, increasing your melee strength.
- Savage Fury: Generate Fury by attacking, then unleash it for fierce melee attacks.
- Overwhelming Presence: Helps stun enemies more easily when they’re frozen.
The gear should emphasize increasing Dexterity, Strength, and Attack Speed, with additional focus on cold and lightning damage. Equipment like staves with ice spells and stat boosts supports your magic and melee capabilities. The Flesh Poppet Vicious Talisman from the update offers boosts to all three primary skills, including physical damage that strengthens your wolf form attacks.
Passive skill choices should prioritize movement speed while shapeshifted, stun chance, lightning damage, and attack speed to optimize your late-game werewolf build.
Best Wyvern Build
Unlocking the wyvern form is the final step, unlocked with Tier Three spells, allowing you to sweep groups and handle tougher boss fights. This form blends speed and power, offering a versatile combat style.
In the second act, focus on developing electric spells for your human form, such as Herald of Ash and Herald of Thunder, combined with strength-based moves like Rend and Wing Blast in wyvern form—especially since you can even eat enemies for extra effects.
The Oracle Ascendancy suits players willing to micromanage skill trees for maximum elemental damage and Fury generation, though the Shaman remains a strong, simpler choice for more casual gameplay.
Key spells and skills for the endgame include:
- Herald of Ash: Enemies overkilled by fire explode to burn others.
- Herald of Thunder: Shocking enemies causes lightning to chain around.
- Arc: Bounces lightning between foes, shocking in crowded fights.
- Wyvern-specific skills:
- Rend: Boosts lightning damage if you’ve stacked Power Charges.
- Wing Blast: Knockbacks enemies while releasing shockwaves if they’re Heavy Stunned.
- Devour: Consume corpses or enemies at range for healing and charge recovery.
- Flame Breath: High-temperature fire spray, boosted by Rage and Power Charges.
- Oil Barrage: Increases fire damage potential.
Gear should focus on boosting Dexterity, Strength, Power Charges, and Attack Speed. Improving movement speed while shapeshifted will allow better battlefield navigation. The Flesh Poppet Vicious Talisman enhances your overall stats and damage output, especially if it provides physical damage boosts. Use staves with electric and shock support as your primary weapons.
In the passive tree, invest in increasing movement speed while shapeshifted, stun chance, lightning damage, and attack speed to make the wyvern form excel during the late game.
This overview covers the core build strategies for each Druid form in Path of Exile 2, highlighting the important skills, gear, and passive choices needed to maximize efficiency in the endgame.
