Thorny Hill Speed Surf is a challenging course in Donkey Kong Bananza. You can find the entrance in the second main area, called Hilltop Layer, northeast of the Construction Site Teleport spot at the base of a small mountain.
This level requires you to use Donkey Kong’s Turf Surf ability to navigate a tricky obstacle course filled with thorns and spike walls. Like other challenge courses in Donkey Kong Bananza, there are three hidden Banandium Gems in Thorny Hill Speed Surf that can be hard to locate if you don’t know where to look.
Where To Find The First Banandium Gem
You will get the first Banandium Gem for completing the challenge course within the time limit. You have exactly 60 seconds to reach the finish line, which should be enough time once you understand the route.
Instead of breaking the floor, use one of the boulders that falls from an enemy before the starting line for Turf Surf. They are smaller and will make your journey easier.
Where To Find The Second Banandium Gem
You can earn the second Banandium Gem by finishing the course with twenty seconds left. Practice is key, so you may need to play through the level a few times to find the fastest and safest path.
Don’t worry about dodging the spike walls; you should be able to jump over them to save time.
Where To Find The Third Banandium Gem
The final Banandium Gem is hidden at the very end of the course, behind the barrel that sends you back to the overworld. There is a wall behind the barrel. Jump over it to get your prize.
How To Complete Thorny Hill Speed Surf
First, prepare for the challenge by grabbing your ride. Instead of damaging the floor, use one of the boulders from an enemy. To do this, simply hit R2 while facing an enemy to take the boulder off its back, then hit L2 to start Turf Surf.
Press Y to speed up, and jump over the spike walls to save time. Your boulder gets smaller the more you move, but you won’t need to replace it until you reach the second enemy on the course.
There are two shortcuts marked with Banana Chips that can help save a few seconds on your run. Stay steady and avoid unnecessary movements to take these shortcuts easily, so you can reach the finish line with time to spare.
