However, we’re here to boost your confidence as you unravel the mysteries of the supernatural. Once you get a handle on demon combat, things start to feel a whole lot smoother!

Find a Balance Between Physical and Magical Attacks

In your initial adventure in Raidou Remastered: The Enigma of the Soulless Army, where Raidou officially becomes a Devil Summoner, you gradually learn how to manage the demons that will confront you in battle. However, with everything happening at once in this game, the combat system may take a little time to master!

Unlike other Shin Megami Tensei titles that feature turn-based combat, your characters and demons engage simultaneously with their enemies. You’ll control Raidou, but you can also summon multiple demons to assist you in battle.

In each encounter, the demons you summon will unleash their own set of attacks and skills (which you can review in the Status section of your main menu). This means that your demons can inflict both physical and elemental damage on foes, as well as offer various support or healing options, depending on how you merged them at the Goumaden.

Raidou Primarily Uses Physical Attacks

Raidou’s main method of attack in Raidou Remastered involves sword strikes. His sword is quite potent, with its power increasing as you progress through the game and acquire new Devil Summoner skills.

Generally, sword combat involves:

Light sword strikes that are quick and deal less damage. Hitting a stunned enemy will refill your MAG for both you and your active demons (more on MAG in a moment).
Heavy sword strikes that take longer to execute but cause more damage. When used on stunned opponents, these strikes inflict 150% damage.

If you jump toward an enemy, follow it up with a sword attack to land a solid hit when you descend.

But Raidou isn’t just a close-combat fighter—he also wields a gun for ranged attacks. The ammo reloads slowly when you stop firing. You can aim at a demon to charge a few shots and then fire multiple rounds at once to try and stagger enemies before closing in for melee attacks.

While fighting beside demons, be sure to have them inflict critical elemental damage on your enemies to stun them, allowing you to follow up with more impactful sword strikes or magic replenishment.

Raidou will occasionally gain new sword abilities that enable him to use elemental damage in his sword attacks. You can expect to unlock more as you advance, starting with the capability to deal Pyro damage, keeping you close enough for follow-up attacks against stunned enemies.

Manage and Restore MAG During Fights

As previously mentioned, MAG is the green bar beneath the yellow HP bar that tracks your magic energy, which is vital for your demons’ skills.

Powerful skills consume a lot of MAG, so be mindful of its use during battles. You can purchase items to replenish your MAG meter either during combat or afterward, but much of the restoration will happen in the heat of battle.

You can recover MAG by:

Striking stunned demons with light sword hits, which will restore some MAG with every hit.
Executing a Devil’s Bane, highlighted by Gouto, which allows you to deal significant damage while siphoning MAG from your opponent after successful combos.
Maxing out demon loyalty as you progress through battles. High loyalty can lead to demons occasionally restoring their own HP or MAG.
Visiting Nakisawame while exploring to heal your team without using items.
Utilizing items obtained from your explorations or purchased from Kounno-ya in Tsukubo-cho.

If you’re running low on MAG, you can instruct your demons to stop using it during the fight. This way, they will focus on physical attacks until you’re ready to reactivate their skills, enabling healing characters to maintain damage output while you’re at a comfortable HP level.

Understanding Demon Orders and Skills

Like many Megami Tensei games, elemental magic plays a significant role in Raidou Remastered. While Raidou can learn some elemental attacks through sword skills, you’ll mainly rely on demons for high elemental damage.

When you confine a demon, its Order indicates which elements and skills it can employ in battles. You have the opportunity to create new demons at the Goumaden, but any demon you acquire comes with its Order and skill set, which you can find in your Detective Journal.

There are several main Orders in Raidou Remastered. Any demon with a particular elemental damage type will have this specified in their Order (like Pyro or Cryo), making it easier to identify offensive demons. There are also skill Order demons focused on healing or buffing allies for a more supportive role.

Master the Affinity System

Familiarizing yourself with the affinity chart in Raidou Remastered will simplify battles significantly. The game will highlight demons that possess useful skills for the current engagement when you adjust your summoned demons. Pay attention to affinities to effectively take down your enemies.

Moreover, your demons have their affinities, which you can learn about from the Detective Journal or the Analyze screen during fights. For example, it’s wise to switch out Cryo Order demons when facing opponents wielding Pyro skills, as the latter can exploit your demons’ weaknesses.
