Minecraft isn’t a game that lays everything out for you. While it offers more guidance now than it used to, there are still many things you have to discover on your own. One of these tasks is crafting smooth stone.
Smooth stone is one of the most visually appealing blocks in the game. It definitely stands out compared to other stone blocks. If you’re planning to construct homes or other structures out of stone, using smooth stone is a great choice. Additionally, you can create a blast furnace using smooth stone, which makes it useful as well. Of course, it’s only helpful if you know how to make it, and this guide will show you how.
How to Make Smooth Stone
First things first, you need to gather regular stone. Regular stone is abundant underground, typically found in caves. However, if you mine it with a regular pickaxe, it will produce cobblestone instead.
Using a silk touch pickaxe allows you to collect stone directly instead of cobblestone, making this step easier.
If you don’t have a silk touch pickaxe, you can turn cobblestone into stone by placing it in a furnace along with some coal or another fuel source. This process will smelt the cobblestone into regular stone.
To craft a furnace, you will need to arrange eight cobblestones (or any other stone-type block) around your crafting grid.
Next, once you have regular stone, you’re close to making smooth stone. Just place the stone in the furnace along with some fuel, and this will yield smooth stone. This material is not only great for building aesthetically pleasing structures but can also be crafted into smooth stone slabs or even used to create blast furnaces.
Another benefit of smooth stone is that when you mine it with a pickaxe, you actually get the block back. This means there’s no worry about losing a block if you place it incorrectly while building.
