In the career mode of Umamusume: Pretty Derby, much of your gameplay revolves around randomness, where your success often relies on sheer luck to boost your character’s stats. Since the game is grounded in chance, you might come across a fun event known as the claw machine.
This mini-game pops up at random during URA Championship career modes, and if you play it well, it can yield some great rewards. Fortunately, once you get the hang of it, it’s quite manageable.
How to Access and Play the Claw Machine
There’s no guaranteed way to trigger the claw machine mini-game in Umamusume: Pretty Derby. It has a slim chance of appearing each time you activate the Recreation option during one of your turns. Recreation enhances your character’s mood, thereby boosting your odds in races and improving your stats.
Note: You will not have the opportunity to play the claw machine when you use the Rest and Recreation option during beach events.
When you finally get lucky and trigger the claw machine, you’ll find yourself at a location where you just need to press and hold the large button with the right-pointing arrow on your screen. This action moves the crane to the right. As soon as you release the button, the crane will drop down, and if timed right, you’ll grab a plushie.
For perspective, aim to position the large circle at the top of the crane directly over the plushie. If it’s even slightly misaligned, you might not succeed in snagging it. Even when you’ve positioned the crane perfectly, there’s still a chance it won’t hold onto the plushie tightly.
Tip: You have three chances to play the claw machine each time you activate it, and the crane will become faster with each attempt.
In your first try, the crane operates slowly and is easy to control. However, during subsequent attempts, both the speed and the force of the crane will increase. This means that even if you successfully grab a plushie, it might get pulled up with enough force to fall out of the claw.
Claw Machine Rewards
To successfully complete the claw machine game and earn rewards, you only need to pull up one plushie. However, your returns can be better if you manage to snag multiple plushies, leading to a bigger win. Generally, the claw machine can award you with three types of rewards:
- Energy
- Enhanced mood
- Hints for random skills
The quantity of these rewards depends on how many plushies you managed to collect. Keep in mind, if you fail in this mini-game, you may also lose a bit of your character’s mood.
