There are a few ways to recover health for yourself and your team in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. You can either take a break at an Expedition Flag—this resets all non-boss enemies in the area—or use the Chroma Elixir when you’re not in a combat situation. Initially, you have just one Chroma Elixir, but you can find a Tint called the Chroma Elixir Shard to increase your supply.
These upgrades can be located inside Paint Cages, which are locked with three seals nearby. This guide will assist you in locating all four additional Chroma Elixirs in the game.
Chroma Elixir #1
You will obtain this Chroma Elixir as part of the storyline. As soon as you enter the Flying Waters area, you’ll spot a large statue of a fish with an anchor tied to its tail. This is where you first encounter the Paint Cages. To open the Paint Cage and claim the Chroma Elixir within, you need to break three locks around the area.
To break a lock, simply use Free Aim (LT / L2 on consoles or RMB on PC) and shoot it (RT / R2 on consoles or LMB on PC) once. The first lock is attached to the fish’s tail, the second is by a brass pillar near the Paint Cage, and the last one is hidden among the vines to the right of the Paint Cage.
Chroma Elixir #2
From the Giant Bell Alley, proceed down the path that features a dome-shaped structure. Be aware that you’ll encounter a Catapult Sakapatate and a Robust Sakapatate in this area, so be prepared!
After defeating the enemies, navigate to the location cluttered with debris, like robotic parts and rusted vehicles, in the center. You’ll find another Paint Cage sitting on a rock to the right.
The first lock is hidden behind some crates on the right, the second one is behind two trees further back, and the last lock is located on a rock to the left amidst the robotic parts. The final lock is not easily accessible. To grab this Chroma Elixir, head back to the dome-like structure and follow a path obscured by trees. Use the Golden Rope to descend, then jump across the platforms to collect it.
Chroma Elixir #3
Upon entering the Stone Wave Cliffs Cave, take the only available path. Grapple across the first gap and continue through the area. After the second grapple point, cross the bridge and go through the crawlspace on the right. Use the Golden Rope to climb up, and you’ll easily spot the Paint Cage.
The first lock is on a blimp to the right, the second is on a falling blimp right behind where the Golden Rope is, and the last is located to the left of the Paint Cage. Shoot all three locks to obtain your third Chroma Elixir.
Chroma Elixir #4
From the Expedition Flag, move past the Fading Woman. At the intersection, shoot the first lock hidden behind some crates to the left. The second lock can be found directly above the entrance near a fallen tree. For the last lock, head right from the intersection, then turn left—it will be right in front of the Paint Cage.
Shoot all three locks to acquire the final Chroma Elixir in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
How to Use and Restore Chroma Elixir
Chroma Elixirs can only be used when you’re outside of active combat. This means they can’t be utilized during boss fights or hard enemy skirmishes. To see how many charges you currently have or to use one, just open up the Expedition Menu and check the bottom-right corner of the screen. Press the indicated key to use one. In a new game, you should be able to gather a total of five charges if you collect all the Chroma Elixir Shards.
Once your charges are depleted, rest at any Expedition Flag to refill your supply. Keep in mind that this will respawn all enemies in the vicinity.
