At the start of Crimson Desert, you’ll notice this game offers more than just a simple story. While it’s a single-player game, the world feels alive and full of exploration options, almost like an MMO, with new things to discover every few steps.
One feature that adds to this feeling is the Ancient Ruins scattered throughout the map. Duskwood Waterside is one of these ruins. Inside, you’ll face a checkers puzzle to recover an Abyss Artifact. Here’s how to do it.
### How to reach the Duskwood Waterside Ruins
If you’re looking for Abyss Artifacts and haven’t explored much yet, Duskwood Waterside is a good pick because it’s very close to Hernand—the city you start in after the story’s prologue. To check if you’ve already explored this ruin, look it up in your journal under the Ancient Ruins section.
Once you’re sure you haven’t completed it, head west from Hernand. Exit the city town in the southwest direction along the main road. Follow this road until you see a second turn on your left, leading across the river. Take this turn, and stay south along the path, moving toward the mountains. As you approach the river, you’ll notice a white foggy circle on your map. That’s where you’ll find the ruins with the checkers puzzle.
### How to solve the checkers puzzle
The puzzle itself is simple but easy to mess up. To get the Abyss Artifact, grab the white checker near the pedestal and place it in the middle of the board in a space that is between three white checkers and one black checker.
You can press and hold the ‘place’ button (usually shown on the bottom right of the screen) to see exactly where the checker will go. After placing the checker correctly, the pedestal will activate, and you’ll be able to retrieve the artifact. If it doesn’t work right away, try moving pieces back to their original positions and attempt again.
