In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you’ll encounter a variety of fascinating and unusual creatures, including the White Nevrons, who often need your assistance. One such creature is the bourgeon, which you can find in the Small Bourgeon area on the map.
This creature embodies its surroundings, being significantly smaller than the average bourgeon. However, there’s still plenty of hope for this little guy, as it can grow bigger with the right resource: bourgeon skin, which it specifically requests from you. Here’s how you can get some.
Where to Find Bourgeon Skin
The way to obtain bourgeon skin is by defeating a bourgeon. There are a few in the game, but the first one you can take on is located in the Flying Waters region.
To get there, find the Lumiere Street flag in that region. You’ll have passed it during the story, so you can fast travel directly to it once you’re in Flying Waters.
Once you arrive at the flag, don’t venture into the wide-open area with fallen buildings. Instead, head in the opposite direction, where standing structures line both sides. Follow the stone path between them until you reach a streetlight surrounded by large patches of seaweed. Walk through the gap in the seaweed, and you’ll discover where the bourgeon is waiting.
You don’t need to defeat this specific bourgeon—any of them will suffice.
Battling a Bourgeon
Bourgeons are large creatures with substantial health, but they’re not as intimidating as they may seem. Their attacks consist of attempting to smash you with their limbs, spitting projectiles, and swallowing one of your team members.
The first two attacks are manageable once you learn their timing. As for the swallowing attack, it cannot be dodged, but it doesn’t inflict damage; it merely removes the character for a brief period until the bourgeon spits them out.
When attacking, focus on using lightning-based moves, as that’s the bourgeon’s weak spot. Gustave’s overcharge ability and any lightning weapon in your arsenal are crucial for this encounter.
How to Use Bourgeon Skin
Upon defeating a bourgeon, you’ll automatically receive its skin. From there, make your way back to The Small Bourgeon area, located east of Flying Waters. When you arrive, interact with the small bourgeon to hand over the skin.
After that, leave the area and wait for a while—perhaps take a break at a camp. When you return, the little bourgeon will have grown significantly. Speak with it again to receive your reward.
