When you’re exploring Fields of Mistria, it’s easy to get caught up in your many activities, from farming to crafting to foraging. You might even overlook certain events or forget how they function. That’s why it’s crucial to keep track of the key festival dates.

While winter is a time to unwind, Mistria still has one last celebration before the year wraps up: the Animal Festival. If you’ve been taking care of animals on your farm, you can enter the competition — but be prepared to face Hayden, who is quite the competitor.

When Does the Animal Festival Take Place?

The Animal Festival kicks off on the 10th of winter. It begins right at dawn, so you can head to the town of Mistria to check out all the festivities. A few days prior, on the 7th of winter, Adeline will stop by your farm to explain the details of the festival.

Tip: If you’re close to earning an extra heart with one of your animals, don’t forget to feed and pet them before heading to the festival and entering the competition!

How to Enter the Animal Festival Competition

A highlight of the festival is the Animal Competition, where you’ll compete against the townsfolk to see who has the best animals. Hayden is usually at the top of the leaderboard, so your mission is to take him down. To enter, simply sign up your animals at the booths located in the town center. There are two booths: one for large animals and another for small ones.

Large animals include cows, horses, sheep, and alpacas, while small animals consist of chickens, ducks, rabbits, and capybaras. When you chat with the booth staff, you’ll be able to select which animal you want to enter into the contest.

How to Win the Animal Festival Competition

When you speak with Josephine during the festival, she will inform you that to win, your animal must have a high color tier and as many hearts as possible. An animal can have a maximum of ten hearts and a color tier of six, so aim to keep your animal both well-loved and high-tiered.

Tip: It’s possible to win with a tier one or tier two animal as long as it has the maximum ten hearts.

If you triumph in the Large Animal Competition, you’ll earn a colored ribbon for your animal and a trophy; the color of the ribbon and trophy reflects your placement. The same applies to the Small Animal Competition, but instead of a trophy, you’ll receive a Wall Ribbon of the same color as your animal’s ribbon.

What Can You Buy at the Animal Festival?

Beyond the competition and fun photo ops with your friends in Mistria, there’s a shop where you can purchase a variety of items. Some of these items are locked behind progression, so you’ll need to unlock the specific animals first.
