As you explore the various areas in Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon, you’ll frequently meet characters who require assistance with a range of tasks, whether it’s finding someone, retrieving an item, or investigating matters they can’t manage on their own.
Some quests are more intriguing than others, especially when they take unexpected twists. For instance, if you’ve encountered Vrell, you know she owns a bookstore. With the chaos caused by the Red Death, discovering that someone is stealing books is the last thing you’d anticipate. Yet, that’s exactly the situation.
How to Begin the Temptation Quest
After you finish the A Delicate Matter quest and some time passes, visit Vrell at her bookstore and have a chat with her. You’ll find out that some extremely valuable books have gone missing, and she needs your help to get them back.
Your first lead is to talk to Walter, a Kamelotian soldier who is a big fan of the stolen books. He can be found just outside her shop.
When you engage with him, he will insist he had nothing to do with the theft but will direct you to a priest who may be involved, despite his usual disdain for such literature.
How to Complete the Temptation Quest
Head to the priest’s home, located just northwest of the city. When you enter the house, you’ll find the priest muttering to himself.
Important: DO NOT TALK TO HIM YET. Before you do, you must read six specific books in his house:
- Vrell’s Proof of Delivery – located under the table on the left.
- A Sermon on Purity and Temperance and A Clarification on Purity and Temperance – both found on a shelf just past the table on the left.
- A Sermon on the Paths of Discipline – sitting on some crates to the right.
- Another version of A Sermon on the Paths of Discipline – on the floor just to the right of the priest.
- A Sermon on Purity and Temperance – in the bedroom to the right on a small table.
Once you’ve read all these books, you can finally interact with Brother Ismat. During your conversation, you need to get him to confirm he has the stolen books. You also have to choose the right dialogue options when prompted, or the quest may fail.
Here are the essential dialogue choices you need to make:
- "But what about: Yet it is not the act of the hand that condemns, but the heart that guides it astray."
- "Speaking on these matters, you seem to adopt an accusatory tone."
- "I think you allocate sanctity to the wrong things… but it is crucial to find holiness where it truly resides and, at the same time, discern where excessive zeal is unnecessary!"
- "But is it really for you to judge? The same sermon says: Yet the Prophet’s Judgment is not swift, but discerning and full of care and justice at the same time."
- "I believe that what people do with their own bodies is their own business."
- "I’ve met people falling into temptation with good hearts, doing lots of good things for others."
If you select the correct responses and follow the steps accurately, you will convince Brother Ismat to return the books. Return to Vrell to report your success. You have the option to either share the truth about what happened or tell her a falsehood; either way, the quest concludes with Vrell getting her cherished books back.
