In the past month, since the release of the Switch 2, Nintendo has been updating several older games to make them work better with the new hardware. Titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom have all received updates, and some players say these new versions feel like remakes.
Another game getting updates is Super Mario 3D All-Stars. This title has been a point of frustration, as Nintendo has released another patch for a game that hasn’t been available for purchase for years.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars Gets The Classic Nintendo Switch 2 Update Treatment
Nintendo confirmed that, like other updates for the Switch 2, Super Mario 3D All-Stars has had “several issues addressed to improve gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2.” This vague statement doesn’t specify what changes were made, but it’s likely that some bugs were fixed in this version of the game.
The news of another update for 3D All-Stars has upset some fans. The game collection is celebrating its fifth anniversary this September, but it was only available for a short time to mark the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. This left many players unable to buy it.
On Reddit, user SliderGamer55 said, “Nintendo stopped selling this game nearly four and a half years ago. I have no idea if this update is commendable or infuriating given that fact.” Another user agreed, saying, “I don’t understand why they sold this game the way they did.”

In 2025, Super Mario Bros. will celebrate its 40th anniversary, and there is hope that Nintendo might release another version of the collection, possibly including Super Mario Galaxy 2, which was left out of the first 3D All-Stars release. There are rumors that a Nintendo Direct could happen soon, which may reveal some of Nintendo’s plans for this significant anniversary.
