While Death Stranding 2: On The Beach features many systems from its predecessor, it introduces unique elements that set it apart in the gaming landscape. One standout is its social system, which allows players to engage in a multiplayer experience even during single-player gameplay.
This social aspect shines through as you encounter signs and structures that other players have placed or by donating items to help them out. Engaging in this system can significantly ease your journey across the map in the long run.
How to Place Signs in Death Stranding 2
After completing the prologue of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, you can start placing signs. The process is straightforward: look for an emote displayed on the bottom left corner of your screen. Simply press down on the left side of your controller, and the sign menu will appear.
Initially, you will have access to four sub-categories in this system, with the online aid requests feature unlocking just before reaching Australia. Here’s an overview of what each category includes:
Symbols | This category is at the top of the wheel, helping other players identify available actions in an area. For instance, you can use directional signs to guide others or mark points of interest. You can also showcase reaching hard-to-access locations with a sign from this category. |
---|---|
Communication | Located on the top left side of the wheel, this contains various signs to express yourself. Notably, your companion Lou appreciates the "Good Work, Lou" sign. |
Fun | This category is dedicated to enjoyment, enabling activities like playing rock-paper-scissors with other players. |
Guide Info | These signs can warn players about different threats nearby, such as BTs or armed enemies. |
Online Aid Requests | The most interactive category allows you to request assistance from other players who can provide items or construct helpful structures. |
When you place a sign in the game, it becomes visible to other players, who can interact with it to give you likes.
How the Likes Help You
At first glance, the social system in Death Stranding 2 might seem optional, but it offers significant advantages. The like system serves as a metric; the more likes you gather, the higher your social level will rise. A higher social level allows you to discover more player-built structures in the game world.
Once you connect an area to the Chiral Network, the likes you’ve earned will make it easier to navigate that area. Additionally, you can return the favor by liking the players who assist you with strategically placed bridges and other structures.
