In The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, the game offers countless opportunities for side quests and exploration. One essential item you’ll need is lockpicks, along with potions. Fortunately, there are many vendors available, but one character stands out for his convenient hours.
Shady Sam is a unique individual who can assist you with your more questionable needs. However, he doesn’t maintain a storefront or advertise his services. We’ll guide you to his location so you can discreetly make your purchases during the ongoing crisis in Oblivion.
Where to Find Shady Sam
If you’re in the market for lockpicks, potions, and poisons, Shady Sam is your go-to guy. You can locate him on the outskirts of Imperial City, hidden in an alcove along the wall. He’s available at all hours, ready for customers.
Be cautious, as he will run away at the first sign of trouble. If guards are pursuing you, it’s best to avoid approaching him. Shady Sam won’t defend you or stick around, and you’ll have to wait for him to return if he bolts. Remember, he’s a businessman, not a hero.
Regardless of the weather, Shady Sam is always ready to conduct business!
To reach him, fast travel to the Chestnut Handy Stables located east of the Imperial City, then head north while staying close to the city wall. You’ll spot Shady Sam, dressed in all black, waiting for clients.
Engage him in conversation to begin trading. While you can attempt to haggle, keep in mind that you can’t play the persuasion mini-game or bribe him to change his attitude. The deal you get will depend largely on your personality and mercantile abilities, which means you might end up overpaying initially.
Armand Christophe from the Thieves Guild offers lockpicks for five gold each, but you’ll need to buy them individually. In contrast, Shady Sam sells them for six gold each, but you can purchase them in bulk from his inventory.
