Your pets don’t just battle alongside you; they also lend a helping hand in crafting. Additionally, they each possess a unique and powerful finishing move that you can unleash alongside your own to take down foes. Let’s go over how to enhance your pets, their skills, and the evolution process.
Unlocking Pets
First, here’s how to get your hands on pets. Fortunately, they unlock naturally as you progress through the main story, so you won’t miss out.
During Chapter 2: Orphans, Rats, and “the Drug,” you will encounter an Assistant Jackalope in Glenn’s shop while speaking with Ellie, which will occur shortly after your character reaches level 26.
Besides your initial pet, there are various ways to acquire additional ones. Some can be obtained through daily login bonuses, purchases from the store, or by participating in events and arenas.
Leveling Up Your Pets
Your pets gain experience along with you as you complete quests, but there are also two special items you’ll collect during your adventures that can be used to level them up.
The items you need are:
- Experience Book – Grants 2,000 Pet EXP
- Advanced Experience Book – Grants 40,000 Pet EXP
Simply having the books won’t suffice; you’ll also need to ensure you have enough gold to level up your pet, so manage your resources carefully.
After unlocking pets, you can access the pet manager by opening your menu and selecting Pets directly beneath the Skill tab.
In the pet manager, choose the pet you wish to upgrade, then click the blue Level-Up button located in the bottom right corner.
A new window will appear showing you how many of each book you have. Choose the book and the amount you want to use, then click Upgrade to complete the process.
Pet Skills
Each pet comes with four skills. The first is their ultimate skill, which is the only active skill available. This will be displayed alongside your equipped skills on the HUD.
The other three skills are passive and differ depending on the pet. These may include abilities related to healing, damage, crafting help, or gathering assistance.
To enhance your pets’ skills, you will need two specific types of fruit:
- Talent Fruit – Used for leveling up Passive Skills.
- Ultimate Fruit – Used for leveling up Active Skills.
You can obtain these fruits, along with experience books, by completing quests, opening treasure chests, or participating in events.
Once you have multiple pets, you can set one as your Main Pet and another as your Secondary Pet. After using the Main Pet’s skill in combat, you can activate the Secondary Pet’s ability during the cooldown period.
Evolving Pets
Evolving your pets greatly boosts their stats, enhances the power of their finishing moves, and improves their supporting abilities.
To evolve your pets, you’ll need an item named Heart Of [Pet’s Name]. For the Assistant Jackalope, it will be the Heart Of Assistant Jackalope.
Occasionally, you might come across a Contract for a pet. If you already possess that pet, the contract will convert into a Heart, which can be used for evolving the pet.
You will acquire enough Heart Of Assistant Jackalope to fully evolve your Jackalope pet as you progress through the main storyline.
Once you have the necessary item, access your pet manager, select the pet you want to evolve, then choose the next tier and click the Evolve button in the bottom right corner.
After fully evolving your first pet, you will unlock an achievement called Growth History.
