In the harsh environment of Rimworld, every calorie is vital, and every second matters. While nice meals can uplift spirits and spark creativity, the reality often requires a more straightforward approach to food. That’s where the Nutrient Paste Dispenser comes in.
This machine serves a fundamental purpose—it converts raw ingredients into packaged meals that may not titillate the taste buds but ensure that your colonists stay nourished and healthy. Whether you’re an experienced player looking to streamline food production or a newcomer trying to keep your pawns fed, the Nutrient Paste Dispenser is an essential asset.
How to Create a Nutrient Paste Dispenser
The Nutrient Paste Dispenser isn’t available right from the start; you’ll need to conduct research in the following areas:
- Electricity, which can be a challenge in many scenarios.
- Nutrient Paste, which unlocks both the Nutrient Paste Dispenser and the Hopper.
After you secure these research topics, you’ll need 125 steel and three components to construct a Nutrient Paste Dispenser. Components can be crafted at a Fabrication Bench, which also requires steel.
How to Operate Nutrient Paste Dispensers
Here are a few tips for effectively setting up and using your Nutrient Paste Dispenser:
- It requires electricity, so ensure you have a viable power source.
- This machine has a fairly large footprint and dispenses meals from a specific part, indicated by a circle when placing it. It’s wise to layout your dining spaces so that meals are distributed near where your colonists sit, or place it close to a food storage area.
The Dispenser operates by drawing raw food from an adjacent Hopper. The Hopper is essential; without it, the Dispenser won’t function.
Ensure that the tube of the Hopper is directed toward the Nutrient Paste Dispenser. If your dispenser isn’t working, this is often the reason.
You won’t need to assign work orders for the Nutrient Paste Dispenser or the Hopper directly. Instead, the Hopper serves as storage for raw food resources (like fish). Your colonists can then command the dispenser to transform these raw items into meals.
For better efficiency, consider using multiple Hoppers simultaneously to store various types of food for your colony.
