A game truly has a deep combat system if it offers an arena mode to test your skills against tougher challenges. While not strictly necessary, having such a mode makes it easier to gauge your progress. In Where Winds Meet, the Taiping Mausoleum serves this purpose. It’s not only a place to practice under special conditions but also essential for unlocking some of the tougher content within the game.
Here’s a full rundown to get you familiar with it:
What Is the Taiping Mausoleum?
The Taiping Mausoleum is a testing ground where you can challenge yourself with unique combat scenarios. You encounter it initially when you hit the Solo Mode level cap and need to raise it further. Increasing your Solo Mode level means beating a Foundation Trial in the Mausoleum. Progress solely by winning—optional objectives are not required, but completing them can earn extra rewards. The trials can be challenged anytime once you have the strength, regardless of story progress.
Before starting any challenge, you can preview the enemies and see how many waves await. This helps in preparing your loadout since you bring your own gear, not predefined items. Each trial also offers goals and boosts: goals are optional objectives that, if completed, reward you with extra items like Jade Coins or money. Boosts can be selected to enhance your performance during specific waves, and there are two types—fixed for each challenge or selectable from a list at the start of each wave.
Mausoleum Modes
The Mausoleum features three main challenge modes plus an additional section for Path Trials’ unique currency, Uncut Jade.
-
Foundation Trials:
These are the core challenges, progressively unlocked as you complete each one up to level ten. Each trial displays recommended level and Martial Mastery before you begin. They have three optional goals you can choose to pursue for extra rewards. Completing a Foundation Trial unlocks the next one, and they’re essential for advancing your Solo Mode level. -
Divine Challenge:
These are tougher versions of the Foundation Trials, unlocked after completing all three goals of their respective Foundation Trials. They feature similar enemies and wave counts but are generally more difficult. To succeed, you must meet all goals—they’re not optional here. Challenges typically have just one goal, making it clearer what you need to do. -
Path Trial:
Unlike other modes, Path Trials are limited in attempts—they are only available a set number of times. These challenges cycle through different Paths, like Bellstrike or Bamboocut, and you bring your own weapons, which are recommended based on the Path. The correct equipment is crucial because Mausoleum Boosts are tied to the weapons you carry. Additionally, these trials feature optional goals, which offer extra rewards if achieved, such as Jade Coins or Uncut Jade.
Legacy Exchange:
Completing Path Trials rewards you with Uncut Jade. You use this currency to buy items in the Legacy Exchange, mainly Inner Way Notes and Mystic Skill Breakthrough chests. You can earn up to 600 Uncut Jade per cycle, which isn’t much but sufficient to obtain valuable materials. Rewards from chests are randomly generated, but you can use Tips Conversion to exchange unwanted notes for desired ones.
Mausoleum Boosts
Every challenge in the Mausoleum offers Boosts to support your efforts or guide your build. These include Mausoleum Boosts, which are static and apply to all trials, and Mastery Boosts, which you can choose at the start of each wave. Building your loadout around Mausoleum Boosts is often helpful since they are fixed, while Mastery Boosts can be changed between waves to optimize your strategy.
Goals and Objectives
Challenges may have additional objectives called Goals—full name: “Comprehend Goals” or “Apprehension Goals.” These often involve staying above a particular health percentage or completing timed objectives. Fulfilling Goals grants extra rewards, such as Jade Coins or Uncut Jade, especially in Path Trials. In Divine Challenges, Goals are mandatory—you must complete them to finish the trial. Since unlocking Divine Challenges depends on completing Foundation Trial Goals, they can be tackled in any order, allowing you to return later if needed.
