Starting off with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you’ll find it quite challenging, making it beneficial to have the option for a fresh start. With the New Game Plus Mode, you can take on the Paintress with greater confidence. However, your second playthrough will still introduce some changes.

As you progress through this turn-based RPG, you will need to reacquire specific mechanics. Furthermore, not all items from your first run will carry over to New Game Plus. This guide will explain how to initiate this mode and what items you can expect to bring with you.

How to Begin New Game Plus

Replaying the game with some familiar items is straightforward. First, you must complete the main storyline and achieve at least one ending.

Afterward, when you reach an Expedition Rest Point, you will have the option to enter New Game Plus. Clicking on this option will present you with information about what transfers over and what doesn’t.

Be sure to load the save file where you’ve finished the game before visiting a rest point.

What Carries Over

Starting New Game Plus is simple, but understanding what items and progress carry over can be a bit tricky.

What Is Retained

While the central story of Clair Obscur Expedition 33 remains the same, your gameplay experience may shift.

Your characters’ progress, including weapons and levels, will carry over. Additionally, all your party members will remain unlocked. For those concerned about preserving their builds, Pictos and Luminas will also return with you.

You can still discover certain Pictos in specific locations, such as during boss battles. Collecting these could grant you a free upgrade or convert them into Chroma.

Finally, you get to keep all the skills you’ve purchased and the Tints you have found.

What Is Lost

Having your skills, weapons, and party members ready from the start is advantageous. However, you may still find the New Game Plus Mode to be a significant challenge.

All side quests, quest items, and relationship levels with your party reset. Most collectibles, such as Expedition Journals and Music Records, will also revert to zero.

The New Game Plus Mode is particularly tough, as enemies become stronger. The upside is that defeating enemies will yield unique loot not found in the standard mode.
