Ellie, the talented mechanic, makes her return in Borderlands 4. However, unlike her mother Moxxie, her entry onto Kairos didn’t go smoothly. Her landing pod crashed in the distant, icy area called The Whispering Glacier, and it truly lives up to its name. A mysterious cosmic presence is lurking there, causing anyone nearby to go insane with constant whispers and voices inside their heads. It also haunts people with disturbing hallucinations of a strange monolith. Not many can withstand this entity’s power, but Moxxie isn’t willing to leave her daughter to face it alone. Make sure to grab your weapons and visit Mancubus’ bar before heading out.
Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned DLC offers two ways to access its story and content. First, you can start a new game after purchasing the DLC by selecting the Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned game type from the main menu. This begins the game with a level 13 Vault Hunter, equipped with basic gear, movement skills, a vehicle, and all initial story missions completed—such as Guns Blazing, Recruitment Drive, Down and Outbound, and A Lot To Process. This method lets you jump straight into the DLC with a fresh Vault Hunter, like C4SH the Rogue, without needing to redo the intro missions.
The DLC also allows you to use an existing Vault Hunter character. To do this, load your current game and ensure you’ve completed all story missions up to A Lot To Process. Then, fast travel to Zadra’s Backup Plan in the Dissected Plateau and interact with the tentacle-covered statue near the top of the stairs in a snowy nook. Doing so triggers the Invitation story mission. Interacting with the statue again will show a brief cutscene similar to the one that plays when you start the DLC game type. Afterwards, you’ll be transported to a new location and automatically begin the next chapter, On Icebound Shores Abandoned.
