Not surprisingly, the leader of the Bastards in Lies of P: Overture reveals his true, untrustworthy nature. After deceiving you and the Stalkers at every turn, it’s time to finally confront him and set things right.
However, Lumacchio won’t take your challenge lightly. Lacking any sense of honor, he employs more than just clever banter and a blade in this duel. Players who come prepared with their own strategies for handling Lumacchio’s underhanded tactics will find this encounter more manageable.
Lumacchio’s Attacks
There’s a stark difference between Lumacchio’s first and second phase. The strategies you learn in one phase won’t necessarily apply to the other.
It’s crucial to understand each set of combinations individually.
-
Etiquette, the parasol weapon available in the game, is risky due to its ability to parry your attacks. This means you should avoid being overly aggressive and striking head-on.
To effectively counter Etiquette, your best option is to attack Lumacchio only after his combos conclude or during opportunities for backstabs—fitting for the self-proclaimed king of backstabbing.
-
Lumacchio’s most formidable attack during his monster phase is called Bastard’s Rage, comprising seven distinct strikes in his full combo sequence.
To withstand this onslaught, retreat initially and utilize your dodge to position yourself on Lumacchio’s far side. By circling behind him before his claw combo, you’ll confuse his AI, minimizing the danger of his attacks.

Your main strategy for battling Lumacchio should revolve around backstabbing him repeatedly.
As a human opponent, Lumacchio is particularly vulnerable to critical hits from behind. However, getting him to cooperate with your strategy proves challenging.
To keep Lumacchio in one place long enough for successful backstabs, consider the following:
- Identify unique openings during attacks like Punishing Strikes and Quick Stabs.
- Practice dodging into his strikes instead of retreating.
- Never attempt to flank him until he’s just completed a combo attack.
Following multiple backstabs, you’ll notice his phase transitions:
- The initial transition is a slight intensification of his first phase. Essentially, Lumacchio heals and becomes more aggressive.
- The second transition signifies a complete change in his attack patterns.
During both transitions, he is invulnerable to damage. Take advantage of this time for:
- Using Pulse Cells
- Applying abrasives
- Sharpening weapons
During the monster phase, backstabbing becomes difficult due to Lumacchio’s aggression and mobility.
If you’re struggling against Lumacchio in this phase, keep these points in mind:
- Perfect Guards and powerful attacks can lead to Critical Hits.
- It’s often better to wait for Lumacchio to approach you rather than chasing him around the arena.
- As a carcass enemy, Lumacchio has typical weaknesses, especially to Fire.
We suggest carrying two types of abrasives for this battle, as Lumacchio’s weaknesses can change. Having Acid along with either Perfect Guard or Fire abrasives/grindstones typically works best.
Upon defeating Lumacchio, you’ll collect the Golden Snail’s Mask and Golden Snail’s Tailcoat.
Yet, Lumacchio is far from finished. He’ll have the audacity to plead for mercy.
Should I Spare Lumacchio?
No. While it may seem like a choice, it’s really not.
Lumacchio will attempt to play the victim, claiming he was just as fooled as you. But remember, he’s the leader of the Bastards for a reason.
Leave Lumacchio |
If you decide to spare him, he will vanish after your rest. In due time, you’ll receive a note from him taunting you for your gullibility. This choice has no impact on the storyline. |
