Kevin Rian stands out as one of the heavy hitters in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. He may resemble a grappler, but this big guy has a diverse set of moves that go beyond just powerful punches and kicks. Notably, he excels at chaining combos, especially since his light kick can link directly to his heavy punch. Even more impressively, he can follow up after hitting his super moves.
This guide is designed to help you make the most of Kevin’s abilities, providing insights into his attack patterns and effective combo strategies. While he may not be the easiest character to master, we’ll guide you in delivering those powerful strikes and using his unique skill set to your advantage.
Kevin Rian Overview
In the neutral game, Kevin shines with his long-reaching normal attacks that effectively control mid-range combat. These moves are not only effective but also create opportunities for frame traps, especially when combined with his Hell Rotor (⬇️↙️⬅️ + LP/HP) attack.
He also has chargeable special moves, which, while trickier to integrate into combos, deal substantial damage when charged and can lead to advantageous combos.
Kevin features a command grab, ramping up his pressure when he’s close to the opponent. His light attacks can chain into heavy-damage moves, and he has an excellent overhead attack that can create meaty setups on wake-up. This makes him particularly menacing in close quarters.
While he’s formidable at medium to close range, he does struggle at long distances due to the lack of a projectile. However, he has the Avoid Mine (⬇️↙️⬅️ + LK/HK) command roll that grants projectile invincibility, allowing him to dodge fireballs and close the gap effectively.
Be cautious with the timing of the roll move; inputting it too late risks getting hit since the invincibility is not active on the first frame, unless you use the REV version of the roll.

Kevin Rian Combos
Kevin is equipped with a range of robust combos, primarily due to his ability to chain moves after his super attacks. His light kick naturally links into his heavy punch, opening up various impactful combo paths, especially following cross-ups. Furthermore, his heavy kick plays a significant role in several combos as it can be canceled to extend attacks. Practicing how to cancel that kick will be beneficial.
Also, practice transitioning from his c.HK into his heavy punch. Use LK + HP to execute this combination.
Combos For Kevin Rian
-
c.HK > LK + HP > HP > ⬇️↘️➡️ HK > REV > ⬇️↘️➡️, ⬇️↘️➡️ LK > ⬇️↘️➡️ LP
This combo doesn’t require REV meter, although you can change out these specials to make it longer.
-
[Counter Hit] ⬇️⬇️ + HK > HK > Cr.LP > LK > ⬇️↘️➡️, ⬇️↘️➡️ HK > ⬇️↙️⬅️ LP + HP > ➡️⬇️↘️ LP + HP > ⬇️↘️➡️ LK + HK > LK + HP > ⬇️↘️➡️ HK
This is a substantial combo. Note that most of the damage occurs once you hit the Hell Rotor (⬇️↙️⬅️ LP + HP), so feel free to end it early if your REV meter gets low.
Kevin Rian Tips And Tricks

Start by poking with Kevin’s HP and HK. If you score a hit, follow up with a light Hell Rotor (⬇️↙️⬅️ + LP). While this won’t combo, it can lead to a counter hit if your opponent presses a button. When in close, cancel his c.HP into a heavy Hell Rotor for a powerful overhead move.
Moreover, when Kevin is close to his opponent, his LK can transition into his HP, leading to special moves. Alternatively, utilize his command grab, Hell Arrest (➡️⬇️↘️ + LK/HK), for additional combo opportunities. In close-range situations, Kevin can easily go from light attacks to high-damage combos.
Using his Creeper Kick (⬇️⬇️ + HK > HK) can secure an overhead against opponents who are too focused on crouch-blocking. This can also yield significant damage if it lands as a counter, especially when timed as they get up.
Overall, Kevin Rian is highly effective in applying pressure with a solid range of overhead attacks and evasive moves, perfect for punishing opponents on wake-up.
This captures the essence of Kevin Rian’s playstyle: controlling the battlefield with normals and specials while fishing for counter hits. If your opponent becomes defensive, shift to command grabs or overheads, and set up meaty attacks when they are down. Mastering Kevin means keeping your opponent on their toes, often forcing them to remain guarded.
