Building Hot Springs in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach
Hot Springs serve as one of the fast travel methods in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, but they can be tricky to understand. Not only do you need to locate where to construct them, but you also have to decide where a traditional Japanese hot spring would naturally exist on the map.
The first hot spring is found at Heartman’s Lab, roughly in the middle of the game. Each hot spring allows you to travel quickly between bodies of water and has special features like restoring stamina, charging batteries, or even giving Sam a moment to gaze at the stars and spot constellations. Here’s how to create them.
How to Build Hot Springs
Constructing hot springs is one of the more challenging tasks in Death Stranding 2. For most other structures, you only need to use the right level of PCC and find an available spot in the chiral network. You’ll also need to gather the necessary resources for upgrades, but the process is generally straightforward.
However, hot springs are a different story and come with their own questline involving Heartman’s Lab, which requires you to explore the landscape for untapped groundwater.
To build a hot spring like the one near the Animal Shelter, you can’t just place it anywhere. You’re required to find a suitable location, so you’ll need to equip a Hot Spring Digger through your PCC. After doing this, two indicators will appear: “Outside Permitted Construction Zone” and “Hydrothermal Sensor Reading.” Both must be satisfied to set up a hot spring.
The hydrothermal reading emits a faint or strong beep, guiding you to your target location. As you get closer, the sound will intensify, switching from weak to strong when you’re near.
Tips for Finding the Hot Springs
You can locate the Animal Shelter hot spring near the nature reserve, positioned at the edge of a cliff. Unfortunately, no animals will join you for a soak.
Once you find a spot appropriate for placing a hot spring, it will become clear, typically featuring a dip in the ground with enough space for the digger. The construction area will switch from red to blue, allowing you to begin the building process. No extra materials are needed, and once it’s established, you can hop in right away. You can also press the touch bar to see Sam and Dollman break into a fun song and dance!
How to Fast Travel Using Hot Springs
While hot springs offer fast travel, they might not be as efficient as transponders or the DHV Magellan due to their limited locations and longer travel time. When you’re ready to jump, press the R1 button while in a hot spring. Sam will wear a bucket on his head before disappearing beneath the water.
Keep in mind that any cargo will be stored in each hot spring’s private locker, and you can only take a limited number of items with you. This means it’s not a simple shortcut to bypass all the hard work involved in deliveries.
