Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 has successfully updated our beloved levels from both games for a new generation. Alongside these stages, numerous hidden spots have re-emerged, making it an adventure full of treasures to find. The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series has always offered plenty of secrets, so there’s a lot to dig into.
It’s worth noting that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 had a different approach to gameplay, emphasizing fewer hidden areas. This means most of the secret spots are in the THPS3 stages, but you can still find a few gems in THPS4. We’ll break down each hidden area and how to access them.
Foundry – The Reactor Room
To access the Reactor Room, you need to un-jam five valves located along the stage walls by grinding on them. Once you’ve done that, glide through the door behind where you start. Inside awaits a bowl with multiple levels and a rail running alongside it.
Additionally, there’s a halfpipe on the opposite side of where you begin, located on the second floor. You’ll need to ramp up to access it, but increased stats will make this a lot easier.
Canada – The Raised Halfpipe and Railroad Rail
This area on the Canada stage is situated on the pier. Simply follow the letters that spell SKATE to get there. Activate the switch on your left to elevate the halfpipe, and then use the quarter pipe to launch yourself onto it. From there, ride up to the bridge, which behaves like a halfpipe and also has two rails at the end.
Grinding on the left rail takes you on a route that allows you to grind the power lines above the stage. The right rail drops you onto the boardwalk leading to The Horn grind.
Rio – The Hidden Bowl
This one’s straightforward. From your starting position, go left. Keep going until you spot a plywood wall; break through it, and you’ll find a bowl ready for skating. If you’re into bowls, this is your chance for some high scores!
Suburbia – Backyard Skate Park
Unlock this secret area by completing the “Help The Thin Man” goal. From the start, go right to find an axe hidden within some lumber. Next, head to the spooky house by the halfpipes. A man in a suit will be nearby; with the axe, he can smash through a wall, granting you entry to the backyard, which is essentially one giant bowl for skating.
Also, if you ollie through the crack in the front door of the spooky house, you’ll be transported up above the starting ramp. You can perform tricks on your way down, gaining some speed for combos.
Airport – The Helipad
This area is simple enough. At the beginning of this stage, just jump over the counter to your right and grind onto the baggage conveyor belt, which leads you to the helipad where you can grind the helicopter blades.
Skater Island – Bikini Bottom
When you start the stage, turn left to discover a large hole in the wall. Skate through and you’ll find a pirate ship. At the ship’s bow, skate off the front, aiming for the life preserver floating in the water. If you hit it, you’ll be transported to SpongeBob Square Pants’s Bikini Bottom. There’s not much to skate here—just a few ramps to enjoy the atmosphere.
Los Angeles – The Collapsed Overpass and Underground Halfpipe
To access this area, complete the Start The Earthquake goal, which involves grinding four red rails. The first rail is visible at the start and runs through a building. After that, a right turn leads you to another rail, and another right turn brings you to the next. Finally, head up the stairs for the last red rail. Grinding these will trigger an earthquake that collapses the overpass.
After that, grind the cable to reach the library roof and access the collapsed highway for a halfpipe or launch off a ramp to grind the rooftop.
You’ll also need to come here to stop the vehicle being pursued by the police; just grind the roof of the car that’s about to tip over.
Next to the building you smash through, to the right of the start area, there’s an underground halfpipe. You can access this area by grinding the rails that curve around this corner.
Tokyo – The Hidden Skate Park
The hidden area in Tokyo is quite extensive. To access it, you need to grind atop the signs on the left side of the map. This is no easy task, so it’s best to first fill your special bar for extra air and approach the ramp on the left from the start. Once you gain enough height, grind the cable holding the lanterns.
From there, just follow the path ahead while grinding. You’ll pass by a huge sign of a skater, sever the cables, and create a giant hole in the wall below. Skate through to reveal a whole new skate park.
Cruise Ship – The Safety Net Grinds and the Pool Bowl
Unlocking the safety nets requires you to complete three stunt challenges. This means gaining access will involve three steps…
- You need to grind the rails supporting the planters on the right side of the ship.
- Manual across the deck near the huge lifeboat (markings will guide you).
- You need to grind up to the halfpipe above the pool and perform a lip trick on the helicopter.
Once you’ve completed these stunts, enter the room with the large coin, hit it, and it will crash through the wall, sending a man off the ship’s deck. Now you have rails to grind everywhere—albeit with one less man on board!
How to Drain the Pool
This is less thrilling but very useful. Near the fin, beside one of the giant chess sets, there’s a valve. Grind the pipe that the valve is attached to to pop it off, which will drain the pool, giving you a fantastic bowl.
Alcatraz – Unlock the Halfpipes Inside the Prison
To unlock this area, complete the Free The Prisoner goal. This involves hitting five garbage bins. The first bin is right across from the prison, the second is beside it, next to the safety rail. Grind down that rail into the courtyard to find a third bin near a giant horn. Follow the path around this area for a fourth bin on a ledge before hitting concrete. Lastly, keep moving forward until you discover the fifth bin near maps and pamphlets of Alcatraz.
After bumping into all five bins, return to the prison entrance to unlock the door marked with unicorn graffiti, freeing the spirit and granting access to the halfpipes within.
Zoo – The Boarded-Up Atrium
To get to the abandoned atrium, take a right at the start of the stage and smash through the barricades. Look for a plywood wall and break through that. You’ll now be in the atrium, where you can launch yourself off a ramp to reach the roof and grind to your heart’s content.
