What makes **Peak** such an enjoyable experience is the game’s challenging nature. It becomes even more entertaining when you team up with friends, resulting in some hilarious moments during tougher levels. The climbing game features various difficulty tiers, each introducing unique modifiers that increase the challenge of your adventures.
This setup offers great replay value as you try out different strategies while climbing. Familiarizing yourself with the modifiers in advance can spare you a lot of frustration and help you prepare for each ascent. This guide will explain the different difficulty levels in **Peak** and how to unlock them.
Overview of Difficulty Levels
There are a total of **nine levels** in **Peak**. As you climb higher, the challenges intensify, with modifiers that work against you.
At the start, you’ll find two difficulty levels available:
- Tenderfoot: This is the simplest level in **Peak**. There are no time constraints, your stamina decreases more slowly, and hunger affects you less. Playing at this level will give you a good understanding of the game mechanics.
- Peak: This difficulty is considered the standard or default level. Here, everything is balanced, and both stamina and hunger will play a typical role.
Once you move past these starting levels, you can access several additional levels known as Ascent. However, each of these requires you to complete specific challenges to unlock them.
To unlock the Ascent difficulty levels, make sure to complete the Peak level first. The Tenderfoot level does not grant access to the harder challenges.
Unlocking Each Ascent Difficulty
After finishing the default difficulty in **Peak**, you can try your hand at the first Ascent by going to the departure booth in the main lobby.
To unlock subsequent Ascents, you must first complete the previous one. For instance, after beating Ascent 1, the second Ascent becomes available, and you can continue this pattern up to Ascent 7.
Each Ascent level retains the modifiers from the prior stages, as well as their own. For example, when climbing in Ascent 2, you’ll need to manage both the new and previous buffs.
- Ascent 1: This level features an increased risk of fall damage. You must be careful, as even minor missteps can lead to serious setbacks.
- Ascent 2: Here, your hunger depletes faster, which cuts down your stamina. Managing your food intake will become crucial.
- Ascent 3: Everything feels heavier in this section, further reducing your stamina.
- Ascent 4: Unlike other levels, you won’t find emergency flares at the top. You’ll need to search for them on the shore or elsewhere in the environment to succeed.
- Ascent 5: You’ll feel colder at night, which drains your stamina quickly. It’s wise to chart your path carefully before you move.
- Ascent 6: Stamina management is key here, as it depletes almost instantly. Tools like ropes can help you navigate more effectively.
- Ascent 7: This final difficulty features Permadeath. You cannot be revived after dying. However, if playing with others, you can still spectate the game.
It’s important to note that even in Ascent 7, while you can’t revive your character, you still have the ability to assist other downed players.
