In Path of Exile 2, the term “Currency” refers to various items that you can use to enhance your equipment. This includes items that provide extra modifiers for armor and Runes that can be placed into gear.

There are many different types of Currency in the game, and it can be quite a challenge to keep track of them. In the sections below, we’ll explore each Currency item in PoE2 and explain its functions.

Overview of Currency Items and Their Effects

Below is a list of all the Currency items in the game, categorized by their general types and functions. The first table covers common Currency items like Orbs that Modify items, as well as rarer items such as the Mirror of Kalandra.

Gold	Used to purchase items from vendors and to respec the Passive Tree.
Scroll of Wisdom	Identifies an item.
Orb of Transmutation	Upgrades a Normal item to a Magic item, adding one extra Modifier.
Orb of Augmentation	Augments a Magic item with an additional random Modifier.
Orb of Alchemy	Upgrades a Normal item to a Rare item with four extra Modifiers.
Regal Orb	Upgrades a Magic item to a Rare item, adding one additional Modifier.
Chaos Orb	Removes a random Modifier from a Rare item and adds a new random Modifier.
Vaal Orb	Randomly modifies an item and corrupts it.
Exalted Orb	Augments a Rare item with one more Modifier.
Divine Orb	Randomizes the numerical values of the Modifiers on an item.
Orb of Annulment	Removes a random Modifier from an item.
Orb of Chance	Randomly upgrades a Normal item to a Unique item or destroys it.
Fracturing Orb	“Fractures” a random Modifier on an item with at least four Modifiers, locking it in place.
Mirror of Kalandra	Creates a duplicate of a non-Unique item.

Currency Shards

You can earn Currency Shards through salvaging items, and once you collect ten of them, they will automatically combine into their full version.

Transmutation Shard	Combine ten to make an Orb of Transmutation.
Regal Shard	Combine ten to make a Regal Orb.
Chance Shard	Combine ten to create an Orb of Chance.
Artificer’s Shard	Combine ten to make an Artificer’s Orb.

Socket Currencies

These Currency items are used to add sockets to Support Gems or equipment, or can be placed into those same sockets.

Lesser Jeweller’s Orb	Adds a Support Gem Socket to a Skill Gem with two Support Gem Sockets.
Greater Jeweller’s Orb	Adds a Support Gem Socket to a Skill Gem with three Support Gem Sockets.
Perfect Jeweller’s Orb	Adds a Support Gem Socket to a Skill Gem with four Support Gem Sockets.
Artificer’s Orb	Adds a Socket to a Martial Weapon, Wand, Staff, or Armor.
Runes	Provide various effects when embedded into weapons or armor.
Soul Cores	Similar to Runes; can be inserted into items for various stats.
Talismans	Similar to Runes; can be inserted into specific items for added stats.

Quality Currencies

These Currencies increase the Quality of an item. Each Quality point boosts the item’s main attribute by one percent. For instance, one percent Quality on a Martial Weapon raises its Physical Damage by one percent.

Glassblower’s Bauble	Enhances the Quality of a Flask.

Essence Currencies

Essences function similarly to Orbs, allowing you to upgrade a Normal item to Magic rarity while adding a specific type of Modifier.

Essence of Delirium	Upgrades a Normal item to Magic or Magic to Rare with one random Notable Passive. It can only be used on Body Armor.

Essence of Enhancement	Upgrades a Normal item to Magic with one Defense Modifier.
Essence of Flames	Upgrades a Normal item to Magic with one Fire Modifier.
Essence of Haste	Upgrades a Normal item to Magic with one Speed Modifier.
Essence of Horror	Adds the suffix “100% increased effect of Socketed Items” to Gloves or Boots.
Essence of Hysteria	Transforms a Normal item to Magic with one item Rarity Modifier. This can only be used on Helmets, Rings, or Amulets.
Essence of Ice	Upgrades a Normal item to Magic with one Cold Modifier.
Essence of Insanity	When corrupted, adds two Enchantments to the item. This can only be used on Belts.

Distilled Emotions

Distilled Emotions can be used to Anoint an Amulet, bestowing Notable Passive Skills, or to add Delerium Effects to your Waystones, increasing the potential rewards.

Omen Currencies

Omens act as a unique type of Currency that aren’t used directly. Instead, they are consumed from your inventory when activated.

Omen of Answered Prayers	The next shrine you activate grants an additional effect while in your inventory.
Omen of Corruption	Your next Vaal Orb will be less predictable while in your inventory.
Omen of Dextral Alchemy	Your next Orb of Alchemy will maximize the number of Suffix Modifiers while in your inventory.
Omen of Dextral Annulment	Your next Orb of Annulment will only remove Suffix Modifiers while in your inventory.
Omen of Dextral Coronation	Your next Regal Orb will add only Suffix Modifiers while in your inventory.
Omen of Dextral Erasure	Your next Chaos Orb will only remove Suffix Modifiers while in your inventory.
