In Everwind, you’ll need to do some melee fighting before gaining access to magic. Once you’ve found your first magical gear, you can start investing in the Arcanist skill tree to unlock more spells and abilities. There’s a lot of magic to discover, including potions to craft, runes to find and use, staff weapons, spellbooks, and more. Here’s what you need to know to get started with magic and the arcane arts.

Although your initial combat experience in Everwind involves using swords, bows, and melee weapons, you’ll soon discover all kinds of magical equipment that will elevate your fighting skills. As an Arcanist, you’ll often rely on staffs, spells, runes, potions, and other magical tools during your adventures.

The key to mastering magic in Everwind is that it needs to be unlocked gradually as you explore. Check every chest and dresser on each island for early magical staff weapons, which are tougher to craft than standard swords and tools and can’t be made at the blacksmith station back on your ship. You can start using magic immediately once you find the necessary items. Look out for potions placed in dungeons and settlements—often on tables or inside chests—as well as spells and spellbooks dropped by stronger enemies as you explore further.

You can craft your own potions at the Alchemy Table, with new potions and stronger effects becoming available as you improve your crafting skill levels. Most ingredients have magical properties, which become visible when you hover over them in your inventory. Initially, these ingredients are locked, and you’ll need to learn what each one does when added to a potion. Our guide includes tables with detailed information about all ingredients once you’ve uncovered their properties.

When it comes to runes—magical weapons that grant special effects—these come in six sizes: Fragment, Small, Medium, Big, Huge, and Perfect. Larger runes produce longer-lasting and more potent effects, such as imbued status effects, debuffs, elemental damage, or slowing enemies. You’ll collect rune fragments from various treasure sources as you explore the randomly generated world and then combine these fragments at a Rune Crafting Station to create active runes for battles ahead.

In combat, you’ll also use offensive magic through staff weapons and spellbooks, which have different mechanics despite both being magical items. Staffs allow you to attack from a distance using elemental magic, making them a great alternative to bows and arrows. Spellbooks, on the other hand, cast spells within an area around you and affect everything inside once activated. Keep in mind that these magical items need to be recharged with Spirit Crystal Dust as their durability decreases with use, much like repairing weapons.

Here is a quick overview of some of the magic staffs and spellbooks available:

Magic Staffs and Spellbooks
| Item Name | Stats |
|————————–|——————————————|
| Frost Rod | 9-10 Ice Damage |
| Cinder Rod | 11-12 Fire Damage |
| Spellbook of Clearance | Removes debuffs from allies |
| Spellbook of Curse | Weakens enemies’ combat ability |
| Spellbook of Freeze | Freezes enemies in place temporarily |
| Spellbook of Hellfire | Sets enemies ablaze |
| Spellbook of Madness | Causes enemies to attack allies |

Some of these items can be upgraded by spending skill points in the Arcanist tree, which unlocks powerful abilities like increasing spell area effects or enhancing your rune crafting. Upgrades such as ‘Master Rods’ and ‘Master Books’ improve your equipment’s power and versatility.

Spending skill points in the Arcanist tree allows you to understand alchemical properties immediately, extend spell effects, and craft better items for battle. Critical nodes to unlock include advanced books, rune specialist, improved rods, and the master-tier items, all located at specific tiers on the skill tree.
