The ornithopter in Dune: Awakening lets you cover vast distances quickly while sidestepping sandworms. However, crafting these machines can be tricky due to a crucial resource that’s not easy to find: Carbide Scraps. This material is among the rarer items in the game.
While Carbide Scraps can spawn in a few locations on Arrakis, they have a low drop rate, so you might need to search for a while before you come across any. This guide will help you pinpoint the best places to find Carbide Scraps.
Where to Find Carbide Scraps
There are at least two key locations where you can find Carbide Scraps, but be warned—these areas are very dangerous and filled with enemies. It’s wise to come prepared.
A crafted sandbike can help you reach these sites more efficiently, as they are quite far apart. Just make sure to bring enough fuel for your journey.
Hand of Khidr
Your first target should be north of Eastern Vermillius Gap in Jabal Eifrit Al-janub, specifically at the Hand of Khidr. You’ll find this location in the southern part of the Jabal Eifrit Al-janub region, easily identifiable by the tallest mountain on the map.
Before diving into the Hand of Khidr dungeon, clear out the surrounding area known as the Shadow of Khidr. This step is essential since there’s a chance to find Carbide Scraps in the chests located there.
Once the coast is clear, enter the dungeon. As you explore deeper, you’ll discover chests that have an increased chance of containing Carbide Scraps compared to those on the surface.
Mysa Tarill
West of Jabal Eifrit Al-janub, you’ll find another region called Mysa Tarill. This area also contains Carbide Scraps, but it’s significantly tougher to navigate than the Hand of Khidr.
To make your trek easier, progress in the story of Dune: Awakening to unlock better gear. When you reach Mysa Tarill, head toward the Crossroad Tradepost located in the northern part of the zone.
If you’re willing to spend around 3,500 Solaris, you can buy Carbide Scraps from a vendor named Zoe at the trade post. They’re also available at weapon vendors in Arrakeen and Harko Village.
Unlike the Hand of Khidr, this outpost doesn’t have a specific name, which may make it harder to spot. If you’re at the Crossroad Trade Post, look for a wall with a large opening in the middle. The outpost is directly on the other side.
As with the Hand of Khidr, take care of any foes in the vicinity before entering the dungeon. You’ll need an armband to gain access, which can easily be found to the right of the large projecting head, located just outside the dungeon entrance.
