If you’re looking for Malachy in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon—whether you’ve already met him or are just curious about where to find this enigmatic merchant—we’ve got the info you need. Think of Malachy as a foil to Black Annis, the rare items vendor. Where Black Annis offers valuable goods, Malachy specializes in odd trinkets he claims are artifacts, but they’re mostly worthless.
Fortunately, even though his merchandise might not be worth your time, you can sell your items to Malachy anytime, allowing you to profit from your finds. It might not feel entirely right to engage with a merchant who seems indifferent to his surroundings, but having a bit of extra coin never hurts.
How to Begin the Drowner Tongues Quest for Malachy
First, locate Malachy’s letter at The Gallows and confront him about it. Doing so will open the door to offer your help, kicking off the ‘Drowner Tongues for Malachy’ quest.
If you were smart enough to grab the two Drowner Tongues from the crate where you found the Letter From a Shady Merchant, you’ll only need four more Drowner Tongues to complete the task.
Where to Locate Drowner Tongues
If you haven’t gathered enough Drowner Tongues on your travels through the Horns of the South, it’s time to go collect some more.
You can loot Drowner Tongues from Drowners located in swampy regions or near bodies of water.
Your best bet for finding Drowner Tongues is the Sunken Village along the western coast of the Horns of the South. You can fast travel there or head south along the coast from the Deserted Settlement until you reach the village.
When you arrive, move to the fast travel point near the water, where you’ll encounter multiple Drowners to battle along the shoreline.
Keep in mind, not every Drowner will drop Drowner Tongues. You may need to defeat around five to ten of them to gather enough if luck isn’t on your side.
Once you collect six, your quest will update, guiding you to return to the Deserted Settlement to hand over the tongues to Malachy.
What Rewards Do You Receive for Drowner Tongues?
When you bring the six Drowner Tongues back to the Deserted Settlement, you’ll receive Malachy’s gratitude along with the following rewards:
- 1,000 experience points
- 148 coins
- A Drowner’s Sword
The Drowner’s Sword is a powerful early-game weapon for warriors, requiring six Strength, four Dexterity, and three Practicality to equip. Level it up and try it out to see how effective it is against enemies vulnerable to the Chill effect.
