In a game where you can destroy pretty much everything, it’s natural that players would want to do just that. In Donkey Kong Bananza, you have two meathooks and a whole area to tear apart, making it look like you’re a demolition expert. But who would want to spend time leveling an entire level, right?
Well, it turns out that after four hours and 15 minutes, professional Super Smash Bros. player and YouTuber PJiggles did just that. “That took some time,” they tweeted, along with a photo of a completely flattened Hilltop Layer.
Just days before this, fans were curious about what the rooms would look like without rocks. Now we know: it’s almost like looking at unfinished footage from a Bananza zone or a level editor like something out of Mario Maker. It’s strange!
When’s the 100% Demolition Run?
Donkey Kong Bananza features 17 different layers, and one of them took over four hours to completely flatten (including breaks for notes). This is quite the feat, but the next step would be to eliminate everything in the game, leaving Donkey Kong on empty, flat levels.
A user even reached out to Twitch streamer PointCrow, asking, “When’s the 100% demolition run?” PointCrow is known for having their goldfish beat Malenia in Elden Ring, so if anyone could tackle this challenge, it’s them—especially since it could take dozens of hours to destroy the whole game.
In a few years, we might see ‘analog’ horror series about the entire Bananza level disappearing and DK being stuck in a desolate wasteland before getting startled by Cranky—@Viclis_
Luckily, going back to a layer doesn’t reset the damage done. So while this took PJiggles a long time, their results are lasting (unless they decide to hit reset). However, after about 60 hours of peeling back all the game’s scenery, the novelty may start to fade. At least they would leave no stone unturned!
