Halo is facing challenges right now, particularly among its developers, following recent layoffs at Microsoft and Xbox. This has left fans worried about the series’ future. However, Phil Spencer gave a hint of hope during this year’s Xbox Games Showcase, saying we can expect “the return of a classic that’s been with us since the beginning” sometime next year.
During last month’s Halo World Championship announcement, Halo Studios hinted that it would reveal upcoming projects at the event scheduled for this October. There are rumors about a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, which many hope will refresh a series that needs it.
Halo: Combat Evolved’s Remake Reportedly Won’t Have Multiplayer
Sadly, excitement for the Halo: Combat Evolved remake has declined. Halo insider RebsGaming shared in a recent YouTube video that multiple sources told him a Halo anniversary project is set for release in 2026, but they “have not heard anything about multiplayer.”
This suggests we might only get a campaign mode for the remake, which is disappointing given the strong community appreciation for Halo’s multiplayer. Many fans criticized the Master Chief Collection’s remaster for lacking multiplayer, so it’s disheartening that it might be missing again despite this being a full remake.
RebsGaming also mentioned that Halo could possibly be available on PlayStation, which wouldn’t be surprising since Forza and Gears of War have made similar moves.
Of course, none of this information has been confirmed by Halo Studios or Xbox yet, so take it with caution. But if you were looking forward to playing Halo: Combat Evolved’s remake with friends, it might be wise to prepare for disappointment.
