There are rumors that Ubisoft is working on a remake of this popular pirate game. Matt Ryan, who voices Edward Kenway, hinted at this earlier this year. It’s possible that the original Black Flag could be replaced by the new version. This happened with the Assassin’s Creed 3 remaster in 2019, setting a precedent.
If you don’t own Black Flag yet, now might be a good time to buy it—it’s currently priced at $11.99 on Steam.
Other games, like BioShock, the GTA trilogy, and Dark Souls, have also seen remasters that took the place of the originals. Fans often debate this, as new versions may have issues like old bugs or upgraded graphics that don’t work well. Another major concern is that removing original games can prevent new players from enjoying classic mods from the community. Consequently, many fans are worried that Ubisoft might treat Black Flag similarly.
“If They Replace The OG Game With The Remake I’ll Lose It”
Many commenters express that this would be a “terrible idea” and insist they “won’t support it if they do this.” However, some remain hopeful that Ubisoft might offer the Black Flag remake or remaster alongside the original. But considering Assassin’s Creed 3 did not do this, it’s unlikely.
Fans have noted that if this happens, the original game won’t be available for purchase, but it won’t be completely removed either.
Despite the concerns, there is a silver lining. The changes on the Steam store may indicate that Ubisoft is preparing to announce the remake. The company is also expected to release two more Assassin’s Creed games this year, with one rumored to be the multiplayer game Invictus and the other possibly Black Flag, fitting with the current timeline.
