There are over 300 bots to rescue in Astro Bot, featuring nearly every major PlayStation character except for one big name—Final Fantasy. This has now changed, as the latest update adds two Final Fantasy bots for players to save.
Since Astro Bot’s launch last year, Team Asobi has been consistently releasing downloadable content (DLC), adding new challenge levels alongside the exciting Winter Wonderland stage. Each addition has brought more characters from various games, and when PlayStation announced new levels during its recent event, fans hoped Final Fantasy would finally make an appearance.
Astro Bot finally has its first Final Fantasy characters
Just in time for what seems to be the end of the game
Even without Final Fantasy Bots in the original game, fans had reason to be excited. PlayStation surprised everyone by releasing all five new challenge levels at once. The first bot you can rescue is Cloud from Final Fantasy 7. Sephiroth is also part of this update and can be found at what appears to be the final part of the game.
After finishing the four new challenge levels in the Vicious Void, players will unlock a fifth level called Megamix Mastery. Completing this level rewards you with the Sephiroth bot and a message thanking you for playing, suggesting that your Astro Bot journey may be wrapping up—unless there are still more bots and puzzle pieces to collect.

This means Cloud and Sephiroth are likely the only Final Fantasy Bots coming to the game, but some other familiar faces from Square Enix also joined the fun. At the end of the other new challenge levels, you can find 2B from Nier: Automata, Serge from Chrono Cross, and Atsu from the upcoming Ghost of Yotei.
Fans were worried that Square Enix and PlayStation might have a falling out, which could limit or stop any Final Fantasy bots from appearing in Astro Bot. It looks like everything is fine, as Team Asobi’s Nicolas Doucet hinted at this happy outcome in an earlier interview. When asked if we would see Final Fantasy in Astro Bot, he replied, “we’ll see,” and now we know the answer.
