Assassin’s Creed Shadows Costs Over 100 Million Euros to Make
As the expenses for video game development keep increasing, Ubisoft has revealed that the budget for Assassin’s Creed Shadows exceeds 100 million euros.
Gamers who have finished the game know that many people worked on bringing Assassin’s Creed Shadows to life. The credits roll for a total of two hours, leaving little doubt that the game incurred high costs.
Any uncertainty about the budget has now been cleared up. In a recent financial call led by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, it was confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows cost over 100 million euros to produce, though the exact amount was not specified.
Details from the Financial Call
The latest earnings call reported by TweakTown revealed that Guillemot stated, “We don’t disclose production costs, it did cost over 100 million euros, we’ll say that.” This suggests we might not get a clearer figure in the future.
Guillemot explained that high development costs could be linked to significant investments in the game’s engine, along with the extensive credits that have drawn some criticism from fans.
Interestingly, development and updates for Assassin’s Creed Shadows are still ongoing, which means the total costs could rise beyond the initial “over 100 million” estimate. Recently, Ubisoft added a new “Nightmare Difficulty” mode at no extra charge, despite some company representatives suggesting that in-game purchases could enhance player enjoyment, a point they mentioned during the earnings call.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows was released in March of this year and is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, marking the first game in the series to skip the PS4 and Xbox One platforms.
