Welcome to the vibrant, mythologically-inspired universe of Neon Abyss 2. As you embark on your adventure, you can choose from a variety of Agents to explore the Neon Abyss. As you defeat foes and navigate deeper into the dungeon, you’ll encounter striking, colorful eggs.
These eggs can hatch into Hatchmon, adorable creatures that act as companions and capable allies in your battles. They will actively seek out enemies for you, and with some luck, you can evolve them into Super Hatchmon, unlocking their special powers to assist in defeating your foes.
Currently, Neon Abyss 2 is in Early Access on Steam, so details may change as updates roll out.
Understanding Hatchmons
Hatchmons are small creatures that hatch from eggs and will follow you, providing help during battle. When you’re not fighting, they float behind you, but once combat begins, they automatically go after enemies, even if you’re stationary.
However, if they take damage, they might be knocked out, dropping to the ground until you revive them by walking over them. If you possess specific relics, like the Tenacious Sapling, they will be revived automatically after a short duration.
There’s no cap on how many Hatchmons or Eggs you can carry, but you can adjust settings to limit what appears on-screen, reducing any potential distractions.
Hatchmons come in five colorful mini variations: Pinky, Tealy, Ivory, Purply, and Limey. By combining specific groups of four mini Hatchmon, such as three Pinky and one Limey, you can evolve them into a Super Hatchmon, granting unique skills and enhanced attacks. Additionally, certain Weapons and Artifacts can gain strength or bonuses based on how many Hatchmon or Eggs you carry, making them important for your overall strategy.
How to Acquire and Hatch Hatchmons
Hatchmons begin as eggs, which you can acquire in various ways: by breaking objects, completing rooms, buying them from the Temple of Shopping, and opening different types of chests. The most frequent method of obtaining them is breaking crates and vases.
Some Agents, like Elise, have special Hatchmons that are unique and cannot evolve into Super Hatchmon.
Upon collecting an egg, you will receive a random one from one of the five basic Hatchmon types, and you’ll need to hatch it. Hatching is mainly done by defeating enemies in various rooms, with an average of three to four rooms typically needed to hatch a single Hatchmon.
Occasionally, eggs may not hatch successfully, but when a hatch is successful, you’ll see a notification revealing what Hatchmon you’ve received.
Finding certain Artifacts, like the Dinosaur Skull, can speed up the hatching process and may allow other actions, such as causing explosions, to contribute to hatching progress.
The Temple of Agapeism
Once you unlock the first perk in the Evolution Skill Tree and level up enough to access the Agapeism Perk on the second page, you can visit the Temple of Agapeism. Agapeism, like Consumerism, is one of the faith choices available at the Pillar of Faith at each level, and you’ll gain faith by hatching or acquiring eggs.
This faith can cause the Agapeism Proxy to appear randomly in rooms, dropping an egg each time it gets hit.
With a full faith meter, you can use the Pillar of Faith or a Teleporter to visit the Temple of Agapeism, where you can purchase eggs for 15 Gold each, trade excess eggs for Gold, or utilize a machine in the room’s center to instantly hatch multiple Hatchmon. Like other Temples, once you leave, it will vanish, but you can return on the next floor by selecting Agapeism again at the Pillar of Faith.
How to Obtain Super Hatchmons
Super Hatchmons are more powerful than their mini counterparts and have unique abilities. They also deal more damage, although some might be less aggressive depending on their abilities.
To evolve into a Super Hatchmon, you’ll need to combine four mini Hatchmon, with duplicates remaining until you find the right evolution combination.
These powerful allies are obtained by evolving specific mini Hatchmon combinations or through particular weapons or events, like taking a loan from the Temple of Shopping to receive the Grabie Hatchmon. The type of Super Hatchmon you receive is strictly determined by the combination you use.
All Available Hatchmons
There are five basic mini Hatchmons, each with a different number of evolutions: Pinky has eight, Limey and Tealy have seven, Purply has six, and Ivory has four.
Hatchmon eggs come in various patterns, but the color of the egg determines the type of Hatchmon you’ll hatch. For instance, Pinky can come from pink-dotted or pink-and-white-striped eggs.
