After the opening scene, Romeo is a Dead Man begins with you in a run-down shopping mall. Your main first task is to restore power to four generators spread throughout the abandoned store. Kimberly will guide you toward the singularity gate, which is your ultimate goal.
This initial section is more than just a power-up mission. It introduces the main gameplay mechanics, including summoning Bastards to assist during fights and moving between the real world and subspace. You’ll need to switch between these two areas, completing several steps before unlocking the door to the final showdown of this level.
How to Start Up All the Generators
When you load into the mall, Kimberly gives you your first instructions: turn on all the generators to locate the gate leading to the level’s boss. This part helps you get used to controls and how to summon Bastards to help you fight.
There are four generators to find before advancing. The first one is right in front of you when you start. Clear out the nearby Rotters, then activate it. While working on the generator, more Rotters will appear, but that’s normal—feel free to stop, eliminate them, and then continue turning on the generator.
The second generator is located on the second floor by the escalators. You must open the gate to the shop where it’s stored by interacting with it and pressing the action button repeatedly. Inside, you’ll face your first Flab enemy—a weak spot is on the back of its neck, so aim for that for heavy damage. Also, expect to face ranged Rotters inside—kill those before focusing on the generator.
From the previous generator, walk along the middle of the mall towards the east side, using the map for guidance. Eliminate the Rotters there and you’ll encounter your first Gecko, a four-legged enemy with weak points on its back. Use the ledge over the gated area on the ground floor to reach the generator within a cage and activate it.
Once the third generator is operational, a subspace television appears nearby, which is essential for progression. Enter subspace and follow the linear path to an area with two levels. Drop to the lower level, open the yellow treasure cube to obtain a Klista Key part—that’s one of two needed. This will spawn a TV that allows you to return to the real world.
In the real world, head forward and open the purple treasure cube to get the Exorcist Sword. Use this sword in subspace on a white wall directly ahead to reveal another Klista Key piece, which transforms into another television.
From the previous generator, walk along the mall’s center toward the east and take out Rotters as you go. Use the ledge over a gated area to reach the last generator—located in a warehouse at the end of the path. It’s filled with enemies and a Badge that you can reach with some platforming across the shelves. Activating this generator will spawn a final television nearby.
How to Find the Klista Gate
Travel through the last television into subspace for the final time in this level. This section features more ladders and treasure cubes to unlock. When you reach a staircase within subspace, look underneath it for a hidden path to three treasure cubes, which contain useful items like Emerald Flowsion and an Epic Bastard Seed.
Eventually, you’ll return to previously visited subspace areas. Use the hidden alcove to find a special television that takes you back into real space. Explore the corridor behind a white wall, which was previously hidden, to find another Badge.
Proceed to the fountain near the entrance, where a short fight sequence begins. During this event, you’ll be attacked constantly by white enemies while Romeo exchanges words with the foe. Defeat the enemies to finish the sequence, and the Klista Gate will appear. Beyond it, you’ll face the level’s boss: Enhanced Phantasm.
Before engaging, consider returning to the ship, Last Night, to upgrade your stats or summon more Bastards. The boss fight is significantly tougher than the previous levels, so proper preparation is advised.
