What You Need to Craft a Book

To create a book, you need two key ingredients: paper and leather.

How to Gather Paper

You might find paper in chests located in villages, shipwrecks, or strongholds. Still, the most consistent way to obtain paper is by using sugar cane.

To craft paper, place three sugar cane horizontally in the crafting grid.

Search around water sources to find sugar cane, which is tall and bright green.

If you cut the top parts off and leave the bottom one, it will regrow, enabling you to harvest more later. Alternatively, collect it all and plant some near your home base.

You will need three pieces of paper for each book. So, if you’re looking to craft a lot of books, consider starting a sugar cane farm using sugar cane and water.

How to Obtain Leather

Leather can sometimes be found in chests. However, to acquire it most effectively, you’ll want to defeat certain animals.

Cows, mooshrooms, horses, and llamas are among the creatures that drop leather when defeated. You can combine four rabbit hides to create one piece of leather, but that will usually take longer. The quickest way is to hunt down animals that provide leather.

How to Create a Book

Once you’ve collected three pieces of paper and one piece of leather, combine them in your crafting grid. You won’t even need a crafting table for this step. Simply place the leather in the center, surrounded by the paper to craft your new book.
