There are many different modes to play in WWE 2K26, but matches are key in all of them because this is a wrestling game. Players need to participate in matches, and luckily, there are various types to keep things interesting.
The game features numerous match types, including some from previous editions, as well as a few new additions. Here’s a breakdown of every match type, including how to win and important details to know.
Most matches allow rule modifications, but the following information is based on default rules.
Basic Match Types
These are the standard match types with typical roles:
- Normal Matches:
- One on One
- Triple Threat
- Fatal 4-Way
- 5-Way
- 6-Way
- 8-Way
Win Conditions: Pinfall or submission. In one-on-one matches, you can also win via DQ or count out.
Notes: These matches are typical individual contests with standard victory conditions.
Tag Team Matches
Includes multiple players per team:
- Two on Two
- Two on Two mixed gender
- Three on Three
- Four on Four
- One on Two Handicap
- One on Two Handicap Tornado Tag
- One on Three Handicap
- Two on Three Handicap
- Two on Two Tornado Tag
- Three on Three Tornado Tag
- Triple Threat Tornado Tag
- 4-Way Tornado Tag
Win Conditions: Pinfall or submission. In two-team matches, wins can also occur by DQ or, if not a tornado tag, by count out.
Notes: Teams compete against each other, with handicap and tornado variations allowing all team members to be legal simultaneously, and mixed gender matches restrict fighters to their gender.
Special Match Types
These matches have unique rules and gameplay elements.

Extreme Rules:
- One on One, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, 5-Way, Two on Two.
- Win by pinfall or submission.
- No disqualifications or count outs; weapons can be found under the ring.

Brawls:
- One on One, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way, Two on Two, Handicap, 6-Way, 8-Way.
- Victory by knockout (KO). Damage your opponent’s health until their HUD shows “Danger,” then hit them with a signature or finisher. Multiple backstage areas and environmental objects can be used.

Royal Rumble:
- 10, 20, or 30 entrants.
- Win by being the last in the ring. Superstars enter at intervals, and elimination is by over-the-top rope with mini-games required for certain eliminations.

Special Guest Referee Matches:
- Can be one-on-one or multi-person matches with a referee the player can control to count pins, do count-outs, call submissions or disqualifications, and even attack participants.
- Depending on the match, victory conditions vary accordingly.

Underground:
- One on One.
- Win by KO or submission.
- No ropes; environment offers different ways to damage opponents, and match has no disqualifications.

Bloodline Rules:
- One on One.
- Win by pinfall or submission.
- No DQ or count outs. Participants have special paybacks allowing allies to interfere multiple times.

Hell in a Cell:
- Variations include singles, triples, Fatal 4-Way, and others.
- Victory by pinfall or submission.
- No DQs or count outs. The cage surrounds the ring, with options to throw into the cage or climb out for victory.

Steel Cage:
- One on One, triple, Fatal 4-Way, Two on Two.
- Win by pinfall, submission, or escaping the cage via door or walls (climb or mini-game).

Elimination Chamber: (6-way only)
- Six participants.
- Victory by avoiding elimination—pinned or submitted first are out.

Table Matches:
- Various formats.
- Win by putting the opponent through a table using different methods, like throwing or pushing.

Ladder Matches:
- Several types.
- Win by climbing the ladder and grabbing the hanging object, such as a championship or briefcase.

Tables, Ladders, and Chairs:
- Typical match involving setting up tools and climbing to retrieve the prize.

Gauntlet:
- Series of one-on-one matches with eliminations via pin, submission, DQ, or count-out.
- Win by being the last remaining wrestler.

Gauntlet Turmoil / Eliminator:
- Similar format, with players facing different opponents in succession.

Submission (One on One):
- Win exclusively through submission, DQ, or count out. Pinning is not an option.

Ambulance & Casket Matches:
- Win by throwing your opponent into the ambulance or casket and closing it.

Battle Royal:
- All wrestlers start in the ring simultaneously.
- Win by being the last remaining wrestler after others are thrown over the top rope, requiring mini-games for eliminations and staying inside.

Falls Count Anywhere:
- Victory by pin or submission, with no DQ or count outs, inside or outside the ring.

Wargames:
- Two rings, multiple players, with team victory by pin or submission after all members enter and compete.

Iron Man:
- One-on-one.
- Most falls within the time limit (default is 15 minutes) wins.

Last Man Standing:
- Win by keeping your opponent down for a ten count, with no DQs or count outs.
New Match Types Introduced in WWE 2K26

Inferno:
- One on One.
- Win by setting your opponent on fire or by winning the fire meter in a mini-game.
- You can win by pushing the opponent into flames, tables, or using fireball payback. Weapons from under the ring are accessible, but certain moves involving ropes are restricted due to flames.

3 Stages of Hell:
- One on One.
- Win by claiming victory in two out of three different match types, played back-to-back.

I Quit:
- One on One.
- Win by making the opponent say “I Quit” through mini-games involving blockages, weapons, and submission holds.

Dumpster:
- One on One.
- Win by throwing your opponent into the dumpster and closing the lid, mimicking Casket matches with additional methods of damage.

Other New Matches:
- These include types with special rules and environments not found in previous series, adding more variety to gameplay experiences.
