As the new year approaches, Pokémon GO is exciting players with a fresh wave of raids along with enhanced holiday bonuses and perks. While new festive versions of various Pokémon have been released, many players are still on the lookout for the harder-to-find creatures. Ditto, a seemingly ordinary yet distinctive Pokémon, has been particularly elusive, making it a challenge for many trainers to catch. Unlike other shape-shifting Pokémon like Zorua, Ditto can only transform into a select few Pokémon from a rotating list.

This method of capturing Ditto has been part of the game since it launched, but it can still be a hassle. Since Ditto mimics other common Pokémon, it often goes unnoticed, especially for players who don’t stay updated with the current monthly transformation list. Casual trainers who don’t follow Ditto updates may find it trickier to track down these purple blobs.

Current Ditto Disguises in Pokémon GO (January 2025)

11 Disguises to Look Out For

Kicking off January 2025, Ditto can be found disguised as 11 different Pokémon from various generations: Oddish, Koffing, Rhyhorn, Goldeen, Spinarak, Numel, Bidoof, Solosis, Gothita, Bergmite, and Stufful. This lineup has been steady since August 2024, making it easier for casual players to encounter these elusive creatures, even if they don’t play regularly.

When you attempt to catch a Ditto, it will revert to its true form, accompanied by a prompt saying “Oh?“.

To help identify a Ditto prior to catching it, pay attention to the CP (Combat Power) of the Pokémon you are attempting to catch. For instance, Pokémon like Rhyhorn and Koffing usually possess higher CPs based on your Trainer Level than Ditto. At Trainer Level 40, Ditto’s top CP is only 931, while others like Numel and Rhyhorn can exceed 1600 at the same level.

Tips to Boost Your Odds of Finding Ditto

Use Incense & PokéStops

While there’s no guaranteed method to increase the spawn rate of any Pokémon in Pokémon GO, using Incense is one of the best ways to heighten the overall appearance rate of Pokémon around you. There are various types of Incense available, such as the Daily Incense, which is free and lasts 15 minutes, or other paid options that can be acquired with PokéCoins. Actively moving around while using Daily Incense can significantly enhance your chances of finding Ditto due to the increased spawn rates.

If you’re an active player or live near a PokéStop, Lures can be a highly effective way to maximize your chances of encountering Ditto. Using a Lure increases the spawn rate of Pokémon in a specific area for approximately 30 minutes. Combining Daily Incense with a Lure can create a prime environment for finding Ditto. Staying informed about Ditto disguises, especially for easily overlooked Pokémon like Bidoof, Stufful, or Oddish, can also streamline the search process in Pokémon GO.
