The Twisted Tree assassination board in Assassin’s Creed Shadows features seven unique targets scattered throughout Kyoto in the Yamashiro area. To locate these targets, you can discover discarded letters during your exploration of Kyoto or by completing side quests. Most targets on this board are relatively easy to identify within Kyoto, albeit some clues can be a bit ambiguous. Additionally, you’ll face decisions about whether to eliminate or spare certain individuals from the Twisted Tree board.
Much like the objective board in AC Mirage, the Twisted Tree target board centers around the Takahashi siblings, who live under the strict rule of their father, Takahashi Inoshichi. Three of these siblings are convinced that they are meant for greater things than a life of crime, and players can choose to spare them while still earning rewards. Conversely, the remaining three siblings are more ruthless and are constantly shielded by formidable Ronin bodyguards. In order to complete the Twisted Tree target board, you’ll need to either eliminate these guards or find a way to isolate your targets.
Twisted Tree Target Locations & Rewards for Goro & Ichi-Hime
The “Good” Kids Can Be Spared if You’re Feeling Merciful
Some targets on the Twisted Tree board come with descriptions that suggest they may not be as malicious as their siblings. Ichi-Hime can be found in the Umenomiya Shrine located in the western part of Kyoto. Instead of confronting her directly, you can observe her actions; during this encounter, she will share a letter revealing that she intended to flee with her younger brother, Goro. If you’re looking to spare Goro as well, he can be located at the Shokokuji Pagoda, a convenient fast-travel point in northern Kyoto.
Another target, Shiro, may also be spared. His relationship to Goro and Ichi-Hime is noted on the board, and after taking down the guard outside Nijo Palace, you’re rewarded with another letter that suggests he could be more of a hostage than an enforcer. However, it seems that sparing Shiro isn’t an option despite your efforts. If you prefer not to seek out Ichi-Hime or Goro, you can automatically spare them by eliminating their father, Takahashi Inoshichi.
You can utilize both Naoe and Yasuke to handle Twisted Tree targets depending on your playstyle; Naoe excels in stealth kills, while Yasuke is better suited for encounters against multiple foes.
Irrespective of whether you choose to spare or eliminate Goro and Ichi-Hime, your rewards will remain constant. By dealing with Ichi-Hime, you gain 2000 base XP, two Mastery Points, a rare bow known as the Daydreamer’s Grip for Yasuke, 305 mon, and an engraving for Adrenaline on Afflicted Enemies, along with Ichi-Hime’s letter outlining her escape plan. Goro, when spared or eliminated, offers the same XP and points, plus the Raijan’s Refusal rare Teppo and an engraving related to damage after a headshot, along with some mon.
Twisted Tree Target Locations & Rewards for Shiro, Taro, Saburo, & Jiro
Confronting the Problematic Siblings
Shiro’s moral standing is ambiguous; you’ll find him first at Nijo Palace, positioned as a guard near the fast-travel location. Upon taking him down, you’ll earn another 2000 XP along with two Mastery Points, plus the rare katana, Untamable One, and the engraving for Armor Piercing on Consecutive Kills. He’s also liable to have a letter revealing Taro’s position at the Asukai Clan Domain. You can head there to encounter both Taro and Saburo nearby.
Engravings can be unlocked through various methods and later equipped onto different types of gear at the Forge located in your hideout in AC Shadows.
Taro and Saburo are usually in close proximity, engaged in a serious discussion. They’ll eventually separate, allowing you to take them out individually. Taro is often practicing his swordplay at bamboo targets in the Asukai Clan Domain, and he will be unguarded, making him an easy target. Saburo, however, is shielded by a large bodyguard that complicates things. If you’ve upgraded your assassination skills, a double assassination on both could streamline your effort.
Saburo will provide you with the Saburo’s Deference rare katana and the Tools on Kill engraving, while Taro will yield the Burden of Legacy Long Katana and an engraving for Critical Damage with Melee Weapon. Just like the other Twisted Tree targets, taking down both Saburo and Taro grants you 2000 XP, two Mastery Points, and hints about Jiro’s whereabouts. You can find Jiro patrolling south of Hinnoji Temple, menacing civilians with his katana. Upon his defeat, he drops the Final Word of the Guardian Teppo and the engraving for Armor Damage on Multiple Enemies.
Twisted Tree Leader Takahashi Inoshichi: Location & Rewards
Taking Down Inoshichi First Provokes Vengeance from His Siblings
Your ultimate target is the patriarch himself, Takahashi Inoshichi, situated in a secret garden protected by powerful adversaries—including Inoshichi. This garden can be found slightly west of the Honnoji Temple in southern Kyoto, and there are several openings in the surrounding walls that facilitate stealthy approaches. Quietly navigating this area is essential, allowing you to approach Inoshichi and eliminate him in his inner sanctum.
Eliminating Inoshichi completes the target board, bestowing you with 7000 XP, the Kitsune’s Trickery Legendary amulet, and the Health for Samurai Mastery engraving. This amulet is one of the first significant items available for Yasuke, increasing health by 1% for each Samurai Mastery Point invested. Importantly, you can opt to take out Inoshichi first, prompting four of the siblings to converge outside the room immediately afterward. By doing so, Goro and Ichi-Hime are automatically spared, giving you their loot, but you’ll have to contend with four formidable siblings at once.
Overall, the Twisted Tree target board alongside the associated quests will provide substantial XP each time you dispatch a target. While the drops of rare and uncommon gear aren’t particularly noteworthy, the Kitsune’s Trickery amulet stands out as a legendary item for Yasuke. The choice to spare or kill Goro and Ichi-Hime offers no significant advantage, so it’s up to you to select what aligns better with your role-playing experience. If you decide to eliminate Inoshichi first and force his siblings to gather at their estate, it’s advisable to utilize Yasuke and enlist help from some of Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ companions.
