Unlocking and completing the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event in Monster Hunter Wilds is quite straightforward, although you might find yourself confused if you’re not well-prepared or uncertain about where to go. This event quest is among the first you’ll encounter in this latest installment of the renowned Capcom series and focuses on hunting a Yian Kut-Ku, a returning creature in Monster Hunter Wilds. The Yian Kut-Ku is classified as a Bird Wyvern in the game.
This version of the Yian Kut-Ku is exclusive to the event and features only minor differences from its regular form. Successfully completing the event quest can earn you some additional rewards. To take advantage of the unique items available through the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event, you first need to know how to unlock it and adequately prepare for a hunt that, while not as challenging as facing Guardian Arkveld, can still be quite intense depending on factors like your environment and the behavior of the monster.
How to Unlock & Start the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo Event
Requirements to Participate in the Hunt
To access the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event, you’ll need to reach Hunter Rank 9. This event is locked for hunters below that rank, meaning you can only take part if your Hunter Rank is HR 9 or higher. Once you’ve achieved this, you can accept the quest. Begin by speaking to Alma, your Handler, and go to the Event Quests tab in her roster within Monster Hunter Wilds.
After locating the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo Event Quest, you can accept the contract and gear up for the hunt. As with most quests, you’ll have the option to either start the quest immediately or take a moment to prepare by crafting items, enjoying a meal, or changing your weapon in anticipation of confronting the Yian Kut-Ku. Once you’re ready to go, you’ll be taken to the Forest map in Monster Hunter Wilds where your hunt for the Bird Wyvern will begin.
Ways You Can Fail the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo Event
Fainting Too Much Can Reset the Hunt
This event is relatively forgiving compared to other quests in the game. In the summary of the Event Quest, you’ll note there are two conditions that can cause you to fail: time running out and fainting.
You have 50 minutes to complete the hunt after initiating it in the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo quest, which is the same time limit typically allotted for most quests in Monster Hunter Wilds.
The second way you can fail the event is by fainting three times during the hunt. This condition applies across your party, meaning if you’re hunting in multiplayer mode and anyone faints, that counts against the group total. If you do fail the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event, you’ll return to one of your camps. You can then speak with Alma to take on the event again.
Where to Find & Defeat Yian Kut-Ku
The Bird Wyvern’s Aggression and Capabilities
The hunt takes place in the Forest map, so once you begin the quest, you’ll go to the designated base of operations in that region. The Yian Kut-Ku will automatically be marked as your target like in any other quest. This agile Bird Wyvern is not particularly tough, but it compensates for its fragile physique with aggressive attacks and swift moves.
Expect the Yian Kut-Ku to engage you with its beak and tail as well as charge at you repeatedly across smaller spaces. It also has the ability to spit fireballs quickly, which can inflict Fireblight and deplete your health swiftly. To alleviate this condition, roll on the ground a few times or eat a Nulberry.
While the Yian Kut-Ku’s body is generally weak, emphasizing damage on specific body parts can optimize your attack. Severing weapons deal the most damage to its torso, wings, and tail, while blunt weapons like Hammers are more effective against its head and torso. For ranged attacks, target its head, torso, and wings.
Event Rewards
With the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event, you can earn various rewards, primarily tied to the Yian Kut-Ku. Although not every reward is guaranteed due to drop rates, if you’re aiming for specific items, you may need to complete the event multiple times. - Yian Kut-Ku Certificate S
- Kut-Ku Scale+

Capitalizing on the Kut-Ku Gone Cuckoo event is a great opportunity to farm vital items to progress through higher Hunter Ranks in Monster Hunter Wilds with relative ease.
